I stand corrected, we do have a "trolley" in the Grove
Well Grape, actually we do have a Grove "trolley." It's called the Grove Circulator, (Route 249) and it trolls back and forth from the Douglas Metro Rail station, up Grand into downtown Grove, around McFarlane up S. Bayshore to City Hall then up Aviation into 27th Ave and into the Grove Metrorail station on 27th Ave. The whole thing takes about 15 minutes and during peak times it runs about every 15 minutes.
We've had this service since the same time the Gables got theirs, which was in 2002, in anticipation of Merrick Park. The thing is, the Gables got dibs on the ones that look like trolleys and we were left with the ones that look like little buses. At first it was free, but now it's 25 cents, which is still pretty good. I mean, what else can you get for 25 cents nowadays? Not even a stamp. But you can ride around the Grove. What's more, you can actually take the Grove Circulator from downtown Grove to the Douglas Metro Rail Station, get a transfer, walk across the platform and then take the Grove "Trolley" to Merrick Park, Miracle Mile or, as I did once to see my accountant, all the way to Ponce and 8th street. And back. For 25 cents. It is actually very convenient. There is a space in the front of the Circulator for putting your bike.
If we were to happen upon something like this in Berlin or Amsterdam, we would come back and write about how sorry it all is that we don't have something similar here. But we do! And I am frankly amazed that most who responded to your post did not know about the Circulator.
Imagine going from here to Miracle Mile for 25 cents! Alas, Miamians tend to equate mass transit, even with cute names such as "Trolley" or "Circulator" as "low rent." Which is too bad, really, because if we used MTA more, they may actually improve it, increase routes and run more frequently. They could extend the Circulator routes to Mercy Hospital, Vizcaya and Science Museum.
The upside of the whole economy going south is that we may actually adjust and start to live more like the Europeans, or even New Yorkers, and lose our fear of "mass transit." Which is a great thing really.
The schedule for the Cirulator is here.

Fine, but can someone tell me who can park at the parking by the post office? There is obviously a parking section for Post office customers, but then there is a larger parking section that has signs posted at the gate saying Authorized vehicles only. Who is authorized to park there? And if it is public parking why is the gate closed at night? Strange, as usual government at work. First they cut the majestic trees then the confuse the people, typical government action!
Who is authorized to park there... obviously the post office employees! Probably not just the people working the desk, but also the people sorting mail, and the mail deliverers. It seems they store the postal trucks there overnight, so the delivery people probably drive there in the morning to switch vehicles. Hardly a conspiracy.

Actually, the Gables didn't get "dibs," they simply paid for them. The Gables, being municipality, owns the trolly service. The Grove, being a neighborhood of Miami, has the service provided by Maimi-Dade Transit.
Great, Liliana, we'll make Miami into a mass transit city, just like New York and the major cities of Europe. But, of course, we will have to allow greater building density and cut down a lot of trees.
Swlip - I don't understand. How is it that taking advantage of mass transit will require cutting trees and increased building density??
anon:
I started to answer your question, but fell asleep at my keyboard.
talking about transit.. is there any update on the 27th ave project. I thought this was supposed to already been started??
I don't understand why anyone would be bitching about some useful mass transit in this town. Seriously, how does that equate to trees?
It doesn't. For some reason Strange Women Lying in Ponds has issues with Tree Watch.
transit needs density, it's true, but I believe we could start by removing the parkinglots, not the trees.
Touchè The reality is that Local Govt here has been run by politicians that don't know poop from poodadle!!! They make more parking instead of investing those funds into modern transit that actually moves people to where theywant to go. For example, the grove needs a transit that takes you directly to Miami Beach, through Mary Brickell, bayside, the Arsht Center, on the way. Instead today you have to transfer and figure out a complex route to get to where people want to go!
COCONUT GROVE DON'T HAVE TROLLEY. THE TROLLEY IS FREE, THE BUS CIRCULATOR NOT IS FREE....
COCONUT GROVE HAVE THE SAME RIGHT THAT CORAL GABLES, BRICKELL, DOWNTOWN MIAMI... THE TAXES IN COCONUT GROVE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TOO...
