Changes coming to the Village Council?
The Council is also considering adding another seat to the council to have another Village West member. While Lottie Person, a council member from Village West, wants another African American on the council, Council member Gary Hecht brought up the thought that a member from Village West would be a great idea, but it should not have to be an African American, it should just be a member of Village West who is qualified for the post.
Lottie was adamant about it being an African American.
One problem is that they would like to not have an even number of members for voting reasons. So they may remove the member who has not been attending meetings and make that a Village West seat.
The discussion will continue at their next meeting.
Speaking of the Village Council, Felice Dubin has been ill and that is why she was not there last night. Felice is one of my favorite people. I wish her well and a speedy recovery. (She is not the member they were speaking about last night).

I have learned recently that the Village Council has some meetings that are not publicly noticed, not open to the public and not in a public venue. This should not continue. If we elected them we should know what they are discussing.
All Village Council meetings are publicly noticed, open to the public, and held in a public venue. The VC has regular monthly meetings, usually the 3rd Thursday of the month at City Hall, which are televised through the City's Cable channel 77.
Occasionally, if the VC needs to meet in addition to the regularly scheduled meeting, the place and time is announced, and the public is welcome.
Usually these meetings tale place either at the NET office, or next door at the Grove Chamber of Commerce Office. This year, we have not had any extra meetings, although last year we did. They were mostly to cover logistical items, such as the minutia of planning and printing a newsletter, what format it should be in, who is providing what content, etc. and other similar subjects that make no sense to be discussed in front of a television camera.
These meetings were all noticed and in some cases, attended, including by press. -- Liliana Dones, Village Council
Liliana,
As you must surely know, just because all the Village Council meetings are publicly noticed, open to the public and held in a public venue does not mean that the conspiratorial moonchild nut fringe would ever be convinced that secret agendas are not afoot. Maybe the council members speak in frequencies inaudible to humans or communicate via Morse code eye blinks? Alas, we'll always have the congenital naysayers among us. That said, thank you for your continued good service to the community even in the face of the occasionally ranting ignorati.
