Somebody buy her a clue
If I remember right, at the last Commission meeting, she felt the whole Waterfront Master Plan was a joke and it was meant to be changed whenever anyone has a whim. She called it an "Inspirational Plan." Forget the past four years of planning, meetings, gobs of money spent and laborious work. She feels that in her district they change them practically on a daily basis, so we should, too.
Guess that's why her district is like it is. They do whatever they feel like without any planning or regard for the public input there. We don't want that here Michelle. We believe in quality of life.
Her email address is mspence@miamigov.com, if you would like to give her your thoughts.
The Village Council meets tonight at 7 pm at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive).
Other items on the agenda:
Crime update
Explanation of Amendments on voting ballot
Peacock issue update

This Michelle person obviously has personal interests on the Grove Harbor Marina atrocious Office Building project and is Biased by her own boating agenda.
And true enough, she has no Clue as to what a REAL Water Front should look like, for everyone to enjoy. can't wait to meet her tonight and tell her straight up, yet politely of course.
Michelle Spence-Jones is not going to be at the Village Councl meeting tonight. She is a City Commissioner. She isn't on the Village Council.
anon, I specifically said This "Michelle Person", no last name, what are you talking about? according to the specific post by Grapevine, they should be meeting tonight here at City Hall. And according to the Vine she's challenging the Water Front project. One can only assume this other "Michelle Person" has special boating interests. YOU need to get a clue.
Anon 10:37,
Having a little problem keeping track of the Michelle's are we? Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to spout "no Clue" when you yourself are demonstrably unable to keep track of the players.
Michelle Spence-Jones doesn't know what the Grove looks like, let alone caring about what the waterfront looks like. I think you mean Michelle Neimeyer since she is the one on the village council who voted for the grove harbour project. You need get your Michelle's straight. And just to emphasize, on one is saying that Neimeyer is getting anything for her opinion. Just trying to clarify the two Michelles here.
Michelle Spence Jones is a City Commissioner who says that master plans are useless - there is some validity to that if, in fact, the Grove allows an office bldg to be built on the waterfront. Michelle Neimeyer is the Chair of the Village Council who is the ONLY member on the Council who is promoting this office building. The Village Council voted 7-1 against the office building but Niemeyer is still pushing for it.
Gotta wonder why?
Hi All:
I am sure Michelle Niemeyer believes in what she is doing would make the waterfront the best plan for the community. I disagree with her on this but i have known her for several years working on many community projects and in my opinion she is always honest and forthright even when she has an unpopular opinion (like this). You can disagree with her as I sometimes do, respectfully. But you guys keep lambasting her or suggesting corruption. Do half as much for the community as she has done then you can talk.

Thank you, Len.
P.S. to Anonymous:
Is a REAL waterfront like a REAL American; its only real if it agrees with your conception of how it should be? And in your world view, does a real waterfront not include boats?
In this thread, we learned that:
A. Some people are for the waterfront building and others are opposed.
B. There are at least two Michelles.
Everyone must be against it for a reason - and the reason is the office building doesn't belong there. So if the majority doesn't want it, why push it? It's kind of like the Winton thing when the majority was against Home Depot and Winton kept pushing it. We elect officials to represent US not to push their own agendas.
Michelle, at 4:47pm:
The Grove's Water Front is a joke and a disgrace, like I've said many times. Try seing some water on foot, Bike from the South Grove and the North Grove after Kennedy park.
You have basically 5 MILES on "Bay Shore" in the grove with only sporadic small GLIMPSES of the Water for the average Joe on Foot.
Try even running from Peacock Park to Monty's. Most people don't even know it's somewhat feasable by the water, so they use Bayshore Drive and don't even see the water from Seminole Ramp until the toll Plaza.
Pathetic management of our Bay Front. Mostly because of private property blocking it, like you hardly see anywhere else in Cities blessed with a bay or an Ocean View, PUBLIC view of the Water, that is.
About the 22sft Exclusive Office Building Project next to the Charthouse: The only reason they are still trying to build that thing and with some approval is because people don't seem to care much about that small spot of Water view there. Most people don't even know exactly where it is.
But Mainly, it's Big Money Interests doing the talking. It's the Deal of the Century there on Grove Harbor Marina and Key Marina next to it. They already have huge metal structures blocking out view of the Water (the Fresh Market Dwarfs in comparison) and now they want more.
Why? Each boat space they rent there is from 500$ to $3000 per month, deal of the century. All they have to do is move them a bit maybe twice a year, lowest overhead in such a business for wealthy boaters. if you do the math per boat, it's a lot.
so people have special interests there, wealthy boaters who want a Party Concrete Office building right by the water, and who don't care about the regular Joe from Miami walking by.

I agree with most of what you are saying. One catch I think is that the "huge metal structures" that the marina occupies have some sort of historic designation as they were the hangers for the Pan Am flying boats in by-gone days. So I think the buildings stay regardless of how they are used...But I agree that I don't want anymore...I grew up in Chicago...Look at the Lakefront there for public access...It's Great!

A FREAKING OFFICE BUILDING DOES NOT BELONG ON THE WATERFRONT.
WHY WON'T OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS LISTEN TO US? THAT IS CITY PROPERTY AND THEY ARE GIVING IT TO A COMMERCIAL BUILDING!!!!!!
Rita
The huge metal structures are "hangars" and they have been designated historic. Grove Harbour already has office space and if they need more they could put their offices in one of those buildings and leave the dockmaster's building alone and just put in permanent restrooms and showers. That should be left as open space.
