Gossip girl; just the facts Ma'am
I see that Joan Fleischman, from the Herald has accepted a buy out and will be retiring.
I remember years ago, I think it was the mid-90s, I had friends who worked at CocoWalk. One worked at the AMC theater and one at a store. They would tell me about the celebrities who would show up at the movies or CocoWalk to eat or shop. I would tell Joan and she would write it up in the Herald.
Like one time I wrote about Madonna and some little scene at the movie theater, it was actually her bud Ingrid who caused the scene and Madonna was as polite as could be. Well, Joan published that and she also published quotes from the theater. She would actually go out of her way to check the story and the source. I admired that.
I tried a few times to get stories in about a club I worked in at the time, they never ran, because apparently she never could verify the stories (which I did make up -- like Sylvester Stallone was in the club last night or Cher stopped in for a drink). But Joan knew they weren't true and she didn't publish them. I liked that about her.
A few years later she wrote something about a friend that I didn't like. It was true, but I didn't like it, so I stopped reading her column. The column then ended up turning into private divorce stories and such and I didn't care for that anyway. But I did like when she published my CocoWalk gossip and I loved the fact that she checked the facts first.

That's too bad. She adds a lot of the Wed and Sun editions of the Herald.
