Early voters are finding a long, hot, slow process
Marilyn Kreisberg of Key Biscayne is all smiles after voting at City Hall right here in the Grove.
The wait can be over two hours to vote, yet people are waiting in the hot sun. It might be a good idea to bring an umbrella and sun screen if you plan on waiting.
The staff was nice enough to hand out water to those waiting. One slow up is that the poll workers are thoroughly checking ID's. Please have your voting card and photo ID ready so as not to prolong the wait any longer for the people behind you. It's a long ballot on top of that. Some precincts have up to three pages -- back and front.
That's another thing. Please be sure to check both sides of the voting ballots you receive. There is voting to be done on both sides of the sheets. At least the people waiting in line have a beautiful view -- this is what the Mayor and City Commissioners see from their cushy offices. Is it any wonder they don't want to move City Hall downtown?

One very odd aspect to the polling place at Miami City Hall is the absence of handicap access at the primary voting entrance at the rear of the building, nor (at least on Monday) any clear signage as to how to enter. There is a ramp, but it is accessible only after a flight of stairs.
Another thing to move things along quicker. The volunteers at the door have sample ballots. Read one while you're in the line. There are a ton of referendum questions and people are taking a long time inside reading everything which slows everyone down. If they read the ballot in line they could vote twice as fast once they got in there.
How about if they read a sample ballot before they went to vote!
You cn also request an absentee ballot up until Oct. 29.
Voters, take your time, read everything thoroughly and make an informed decision. There's no rush. this is an important election on all fronts. We've waited such a long time for this - what's a few more hours!
miami herald has a list of voting recommendations. while i do not agree with all of them they do a decent job explaining both side of each issue of candidates.

i mark my choices in my sample ballot and just bring it with me to the polls. it is much faster.
Just an FYI, you do not HAVE to have your Voter's ID card with you, just a regular Florida ID or Driver's License.
The absentee ballot envelope I received says on the back (where you sign) that it is a felony to vote absentee unless you are in the military or living overseas. (?) Is that correct? If not, why does Miami-Dade write that?
Anon,
no it isn't. I have no idea why that is on there but it is perfectly legal. I have been voting absentee from my condo in the grove for years. They actually are now starting to just call it voting by mail because otherwise people think they can only use it if they are absent.
Anonymous 7:20 again...
My return envelope also says "no postage required"... while there have been a couple articles in the Herald about folks worrying if their envelopes will have enough postage. So I must have been given an old envelope. Conspiracy theorists can start figuring out if the old scary envelopes were only sent to Democrats!
mail your ballot at the post office to be sure you have the right postage.
