Hear the beat of the Drum Circle
I read about the Drum Circle in the New York Times about a month ago (here) and now lo and behold, our own AnnaMaria Windisch-Hunt tells me she wants to get one going in the Grove. I don't really get it, it's a throwback to the 1960s, I think, something to do with healing and peace and, honestly, I'm not sure. I guess it could be set up in Peacock Park.
AnnaMaria and Fred have been in Woodstock, NY for awhile where folks have the Drum Circle every Sunday, in fact, AnnaMaria has set up a page of photos here. You can see Fred enjoying a Woodstock Drum Circle below. I'll get you more details on this when AnnaMaria gives me more details in a week or so, upon their return to the Grove.
There is a Drum Circle planned for Virginia Key Beach the third Sunday of every month, which I guess would be this Sunday. So if you want to see what it's all about, check that out from 2 to 6 pm at Virginia Key Beach.

Have seen similar everywhere from Los Angeles to San Francisco, New York... you name it. Sometimes it can be quite rousing. Mostly a fun fad.
My observation here has been that it's positive energy, everyone watching sooner or later participates. It keeps the people right in the center of Woodstock, a magnet. Restaurants are full as are the shops. The beat close to ones pulse rate is healing according to "The Mozart Effect". Can you imagine the Grove full of people every single Sunday. Enjoying the sound and being motivated to eat and shop, with smiles on their faces, because it is uplifting and energizing. I wouldn't get to far away from the center of the Grove.
Out of Africa sells drums,
