Could it also be possible that they were not in fact "lost" and that the map had all the information needed, with the empty booth merely a gratuitous backdrop contrived by the photographer?
No, they were lost, I asked if they needed help and they wanted to know where the waterfront was.
The booths are empty 99% of the time, it's always a gratuitious backdrop.
Go stand out there any day of the week, you'll see the same scene. In fact, we should have a little contest. I am going to ask people to send me the same similar phtos and we'll see how many come in.
The booths are a total waste of taxpayer money and sidewalk space. Anyone who feels these booths are of any value needs to have their head examined.
Yes, I go by every day, all hours, nothing in those booths except the eye sore. Who's responsible for that infamous "faux pas" ? They should clean up after their own mess.
I've been saying this for weeks. I'm always walking through the grove and I've seen a person in a booth twice since they went up. that's probably less than 1% of the time, definitely worth the (i heard ($100,000) price tag each.
Maybe they're 21st Century T.A.R.D.I.S. booths? Has anyone seen Dr. Who around?
GREAT photo! I remember my first time here years ago for the Bahamas parade (forgot the name exactly?) where I watched it from that intersection, having come from the Metrorail, and I had no idea that the waterfront was just a few blocks away.
Those info booths are well worth the comic fodder.
This is part of the point of the waterfront plan. When it's in place we will have better connections to the water and people won't be standing a few hundred yards away wondering where the water is. There will be a view of the water down McFarlane and instead of looking at a ficus hedge where the sailing club is there will be a clear view to the water.
I have to argue in favor of the booth at the corner of Grand and McDonald. Whenever it IS staffed, it's usually some 20-something, hot, uniformed male who probably doesn't know the first damn thing about the Grove, but shoot, what eye candy.
I thought I heard those booths were not to code...whatever happened about that (guess they'd rather harrass artists instead).
