St. Stephens is renovating in a green way

St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School, here in the Grove, is designing a new school building. They also are redoing their front office and they are replacing classrooms with retail space. The footprint will remain the same.

They have applied for a Class II special permit and this has been granted. It has been found that the proposed two-story addition is in keeping with the architectural character of the existing building. No lighting plan was submitted and that is now being required by the zoning department. Any changes will have to be reviewed by the City Planning Department.

The new school and area will be certified green, I think this may be only the second school in the county to be certified green. Some great environmental things include the capturing of rain water which will be used to irrigate the site. Vegetation will surround the structure and climb a two-story trellis, enveloping the building in a vertical garden of green. Large overhangs will allow shade and conserve energy. Roofing solar panels will be part of the plan, too.

New construction will incorporate a new front of the Mission style chapel, that occupied the site in the early 1900s. There will be no increase in students and additional parking space is not needed. The retail building will follow the zoning requirements abutting its neighbor and a setback five feet from the property line.

That is very commendable as building/renovating green can be costly and does nothing for profits. I have been looking for a "green" school environment to send my daughter. This is great news.

Solar panels a are use to make renewable energy from sun,two type of solar panels are called photovoltaic module.these modules convert the energy of sun into electricity. Most places in the high plains have plenty of solar energy available to meet some, or all of your needs.

A solar system is ideal for urban areas where building codes prevent a wind turbine. Solar systems work when sunlight strikes a solar photovoltaic module.
