Fighting the fight since 1925

Here is an old Grove anti-annexation full page newspaper ad from June 16, 1925 sent to me from Harry Emilio Gottlieb, who got it from Miami historian Arva Moore Parks. If you click on it, it will open much larger.

"...as evidenced by the lack of improvements on many miles of streets in the present City of Miami."

No wonder we have traffic congestion now, apparently it existed 80 years ago with a population of 3,000.

As Coconut Grove is the City of Miami's only real "cash cow" since 1925, it'll be a real fight to get free from them. There was a HUGE fight in 1925, but the issue/vote came in the summer when most of the $$ residents weren't here to vote and didn't know what was happening. So we got annexed..
Which is worse, dealing with the City of Miami or with Metro Dade County?? Good luck...

The only way we can take back the grove is to put the question on the state ballot. I believe with enough petition signatures, the good citizens of the state will help us in our deannexation from the parasitic city of Miami
