Barnacle holds 2nd annual literacy event

September is Literacy Month and The Barnacle (3485 Main Highway) is featuring "Barnacle, Books, Birds & Boats!" their second annual literacy event on September 7. Parents bring your kids; kids bring your parents for a fun-filled Sunday with educational activities, games and prizes.

Enjoy story-telling, have fun with How to Haiku, feed your mind with Alphabet Soup, and much more. Activities are 11 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, the park is open from 9 am to 5 pm.

Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome, but alcohol is not permitted. The Barnacle is one of many state parks participating in this year’s Literacy Celebration where there is free entry into state parks with a library book, library card or book donation will occur from Sunday, September 7 through Saturday, September 13. Without the books or library card, park admission is $1. Children under 6 are free.
