Arts in the parks
Many places like Sarasota, have a traveling exhibition up and down their main street (US41). It's always changing and consists of many different types of sculptures, you can see a few in the photo here. But simultaneously they have "dancing cars" -- cars standing up on end and an Andy Warhol sculpture, of him, not by him and all sorts of different styles and things. As you drive around town, you see amazing, artful things. It's lively and eclectic, and it all works.
We could do that here in the Grove up and down South Bayshore Drive.
There are some great things there now like the horse, giraffe and the bench sculptures, but how about more that would change on a continuing basis? We used to have those big rusty things at Kennedy Park for awhile. While many people hated them, many people loved them and they did add a little dimension to the park.
Different art installations up and down the parks would be nice and I don't think we need to wait for the whole Waterfront Masterplan to be completed, we should start now. Perhaps someone like AnnaMaria Windish-Hunt could be hired and run the program.
