Is it a cry for attention?
Or do they just hate their neighbors?

While I don't want those strict rules that Coral Gables has, I think we need some rules in the Grove. Ever see some of the ugly colors people paint their houses around here?

For all the stupidity of the zoning department of Coral Gables (and there are tons of examples), some things do work well

What an ugly blue; by the way GREC homes of the Sedanos Supermarkets seems to have stopped posting their names on their developments in the area, I suppose we wont find out who is building the monstrous houses in the Grove anymore;) I agree with first post. But new rules?!!!! Do we really need some new costly bureaucracy in place so that there is another excuse for the politicians to tax us, more and more and give permits to no one except their cousins? I think the community can come up with better solutions.

rules? you have to be kidding me. you should apologize to your readers for suggesting the Grove needs rules to like what color you can paint your house.

the idea that you would like these kind of rules in the Grove is disappointing. what would the hippies say?

Kind of reminds me of the little ticky-tacky houses of San Francisco. I like it...Makes things Bright, funky, and fun..A matter of taste I guess (good or bad) Besides it reminds me of my Prom, powder blue tux with dark blue piping...uh oh did I just date myself?

Some rules, parameters, codes, procedures, arrangement are useful. Most folks think that stop signs, traffic lights, street lanes, warning signs and speed limit signs are of value and worth obeying. Laws against steeling, cheating, shooting guns in the air for celebrations, killing and such are also worthy of obeying. There are zoning codes for the maximum building footprint, distance of set backs, building height limits, height of hedges, percentage of green space and such that are consider useful to those folks wishing to live in a safe, attractive, comfortable and hopefully financially appreciating neighborhood. But there are often no rules or codes regarding eyesore vehicles or truck cabs parked for extended lengths of time on the public swale. There may not be any rules regarding the repetitive building of boring cookie cutter designed buildings that are just too similar and are built too close to the last one that looks just like it. There may not be rules determining color of exterior paint so it is left up the property owners creativity, good taste or lack there of to make that choice. Some folks may enjoy the idea of living in a very eclectic neighborhood and some may desire more structure and tradition. But I am pretty sure that non of us desire to live in a neighborhood with no rules, too many repetitive cookie cutter homes, be subjected to bright lights, loud noises, roosters, howling dogs or paint selections that require sunglasses or especially a welding mask.

Coral Gables has lots of property for sale for those who want a McSpanish home that is peach colored with a barrel tiled roof just like the one on either side of you. Although not personally fond of the blue, I hope we never lose the right to express ourselves.
