Are we all that stupid? Is this true?

Someone left this comment anonymously on another post. It sort of makes sense. Is it true?

"The federal postal service was in cahoots with a developer before the trees were ever removed. Rather than repair and upgrade the current post office building, it was found to be more profitable to sell the lot as a whole or as parcels, and an interested developer was identified.

"As part of the deal, the post office was to remove the trees under the guise of upgrading the post office parking lot, but in actuality, it was a demand made by the developer before the company would consider purchasing the lot and the post office building. The developer knew the problems a private company would run into when trying to remove years-old shade trees in the Grove, so the process was 'expedited' by USPS, who knew full well of local regulations against such actions, but claimed ignorance on a federal level once it came time to answer for them.

"Now we're paying with local monies for an unnecessary parking study that in the end, will promote the sale of the federally owned building and leave the Grove with more empty parking and retail space."

i'm hoping wishful thinking, or the basis for a good book. i've got to imagine there is too much red tape involved with a gov't agency to sell property for them to think that far ahead, plus are they really in business to make money from land sales? seems like they would try to move the land as quick as possible rather than try to cut tree's down to help a sale go through...

This would be a lot more credible is the developer were named. The party who posted the information is already anonymous, so it's hard to see the point in the developer being anonymous as well.

The silence is deafening because the Feds don't have a department to respond to conspiracy theory dim bulbs who apparently don't have a clue about how the USPS operates.

Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned bureaucratic incompetence? Shit happens, you know?

Of course, some people have become so deranged by their hatred of Bush and Cheney that they think anything is possible.

Which kind of undermines their notion that Bush is an idiot. Reminds me of the South Park episode about "Truthers" -- the rumor of a government conspiracy is, itself, a government conspiracy!

Well, the the feds probably can not sell the land a post office is on, but.... that does not mean they can not hire a contractor to do a study, make a plan, build...build....... Now, if a parking garage goes up on that lot and new post office... well the poster was correct.... and this is a rare occasion where I will not leave my name.

Whether or not it's true, I refuse to pay $1 to park on the street to run into the post-office for 10 minutes. The hell with the Grove post-office. I go to the Gables or South Miami now when I'm running other errands...post offices that actually have parking (and it's free).
