It's a hot day for Goombay
It's just pure Goombay from 32nd Avenue to 37th Avenue. (McDonald Street to Douglas Road).
My favorite was this seafood you see above. For $12.00 you get a nice portion of lobster and shrimp (I've never seen shrimp this large before), with dirty rice and a delicious green salad (tomatoes and lettuce), in a nice Creole or some kind of tasty sauce.
The booth is right in front of CVS drugstore. They also have ribs, fish and jerked chicken. You can actually take the food and sit on a bench right outside CVS on the sidewalk. It's probably shady right about now.
With all the food they sell, they really ought to have a seating area to make it more enjoyable, but I guess the best part of a festival is standing and eating and dripping and just making a mess of yourself in all the delicious flavors.
Lots of nice things were for sale -- many African items and many Obama t-shirts.
The Goombay Festival runs until 8 pm and if you want to taste some good Bahamian food and enjoy lots of tropical music, including some jazz (there are stages at either end of the festival), get out there and party until the sun goes down. I'm going back for dinner before the
Art Stroll tonight. :)

I am disappointed at how much the Goombay has shrunk from 2006, which is the last year I went.
I am not disappointed, however, at the fun of it. People are extraordinarily nice at the Goombay, everyone talks to everyone, many dance, everyone seems to be in a great mood.
I hope whomever is in charge recharges his/her batteries and gets it going to what it was before. I spoke to several people and they all talked about when it was a huge event.
Nice of you to snap a photo of the Obama Tshirts! I sure hope he wins this fall.
Yeah, it was definitely fun, but say about 299,000 less than the 300,000 the Goombay website predicted! I don't know why attendance fell off. The Haitian Festival last month for instance was huge at Bayside. Hmmm....
