Cops are out and about

The cops are out on the streets of the Grove.

''We are setting the tone for the summer,'' says Grove Police Commander Jorge Martin. Watch out.

I hope those cops who put hang tags on doors after the residents left for the day returned in the evening to take them off where no one was home. Those things are flag waving flashing green lights for burglars.

The cops in the Grove don't know what the hell they are doing. My friend told me a story of what happened to him. He was pulled over after picking up a friend ours that happens to live in West Grove. The two cops jumped out of their cars with guns pulled out and pointed at them. After he got out of the car he was pinned to the car and called a "dirty white crackhead". They searched his car and after not finding anything was let go. Apparently because he is white skined and our friend is not, that means he was in the area to pick up drugs?! WTF is that? I understand that they are trying to put an end to all the drugs in the street, but they had no right and for that lost all respect from me.

Candice, I'd love to know what their "probable cause" was.

So why are there so many homeless people walking around the grove. Especially the ones hanging out in front of the elementary school. They were arrested several weeks ago and were told not to return. Sure enough the next day they were there drinking and smoking asking people for 80 cents. They walk around the restaurants bothering paying customers. Not only does it make the grove look bad but it definetly tells me that the cops do not care enough.

Even when I have called the police for serious problems like fights, destroying property or loitering the police don't want to get involved. I've been in situations where I have had no choice but to call the cops and end up being harrased as if I woke them up from there nap at Dunkin' Donuts.

There should be police officers walking around, meeting business owners and managers, and basically making their presence known. We should not see cops only during times of need but on a regular basis.

I'm sorry but the only times I see police officers is when there is a fight at Cocowalk or they pass by with their sirens.

Blah, blah, blah....I know but this is the only place I can voice my opinion about this. Thanks for listening.

You have no right and It is very rude of you to suggest my friend is a drug dealer because he is in the area. NONE of them are and they both have respectful jobs. Maybe the drug dealer here is you....

I also happen to live in the WEST grove. I've been living there for two years and I get harrased on a almost daily basis by cops because my skin tone is white and not black. Why would someone like myself with my white skin tone be around that area if it weren't for drugs right? I live in the area because I can not afford to take my family elsewhere! I do not want to move to Florida City and that area is one of the few that provides affordable housing. I do not do drugs and I never have. In areas like that I've learned to keep to myself because that is what keeps out of trouble and also what keeps you alive. I have no issues with the fact the the Police are trying to get drugs off the street, I applaude their effort.
