It is a shame that greed stains what is really a great neighborhood event. Most people, me included, do like to bring their own water, soft drinks, beer and food. I, for one, really cringe at paying $2.50 to $3.00 for a $0.79 bottle.
On the other hand, many do buy from the vendors in the park... I do too, so I can try new stuff or because it smells appetizingly.
By forbidding baskets and coolers and letting a bunch of illegal vendors profit from the event, the sponsors certainly downgrade the entire thing.
I think that there is ample room for both: own coolers and vendors.
They should have advertised that no food or drink was allowed. Particularly since as far as I know it was the first time that has been done. If people brought food what were they going to do, throw it away? They had enough time to have a banner made banning coolers so they should have put it in their ads but in the ad they put in the Sun Post, they never even put the time of the event.
Did you see the size of that banner - TALK ABOUT EYE POLLUTION.....those banners don't come cheap either.
This was my first and I think my last....They had a "comidian" on stage before the concert. They should not invite him again...he thought he was funny at making racial jokes (which were not funny at all).
Very disappointed.
A group of us went to the concert, having lugged chairs and a very large cooler full of food and drink, and saw lots of other people with coolers who were not bothered about having them. Isn't part of the joy of an outdoor concert in the park the gourmet picnic part of it? The City should be encouraged to change its no coolers rule, but no one gave us a problem about violating it.
The comedian was lame and I found his Cuban jokes offensive, but the music was fantastic (although I wouldn't have called any of it "jazz") and the crowd was full of families and couples. It was a great family event that I hope will be repeated.
