Well, if he was eating at my restaurant, I would make sure he got a "special" recipe every time.
Hey as long as they are patronizing Grove merchants...not a problem. I see a lot of Grove restauranteers eating at other restaurants - everyone needs a change and you should know what the competition is. Fortunately, most of these people are friends.
That is not a problem, I would consider it as a compliment if people were copying my recipes, ideas or were following my steps (That makes me wonder about the words original and knockoff) If you believe people are doing this to an extreme level then that has a pathological explanation: Antisocial disorder, unfortunately it is quite prevalent in our society but does not stop at recipes.
I am assuming its Olov. He always has great food, it doesn't bother me.
I would say trademark your "dishes" or eastablishment so that people can't copy. I don't agree with it. Especially in the grove. Do we really want all (or the only ones left)restaurants serving the same things? That's retarded.
Jimmy Cefalo seems to be a BIG FAN of Focacia Rustica near the post office. I have seen him lunch there many times. Guess he likes the food there better as well.
What in the Grove is so good or so different that it would be copied? I cant think of a "signature dish" at any Grove restaurant that is memorable. Someone previously commented (i forget what thread this was in) that cajun chicken egg rolls at Tu Tu Tango were a "signature dish" but you can find those just about anywhere.
I guess that brings up an interesting question though. What sort of signature dishes are there in teh Grove?
Why is that anyone's business but the restaurant owner's?
What is this should he/she be told... is this now a vigilante group?
Get a grip
I have not had anything resembling the keema served at basil, which is delicious.
Interesting thread.
A few years ago when I had a place in the grove, I found out another grove establishment that had copied some of my recipes. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it other than to make sure your own version is the best.
That said, even though I no longer have a grove location, I still live in the grove and will never patronize the place which lifted my recipes.
I thank you for the compliment but my menu has not changed in years, and I do not need a recipe for my sandwiches from my businees friends
Blind Mind, you should try just about anything on the menu at Jaguar.
Also, the pumpkin ravioli at Berry's.
Green Peppercorn Steak at Greenstreets.
Fish tacos at Sandbar.
Triple Cheeseburger at Scotty's
Any of the pates at Le Bouchon, not to mention the Chicken Fricassee.
Spicy Octopus & Conch salad at Siam Oishi.
There are a lof of jewels to be found in the Grove.
Anon,
I was going to name the ceviches and Shrimp Trio at Jaguar but I decided against naming dishes at one place, so I agree with you there. I also agree with you on the fish tacos at Sandbar, even if I did get food poisoning from them twice (which was NOT fun) and Id even toss in their lime-seasoned fries as Ive never seen that anywhere else. However, pumpkin ravioli (which I doubt are fresh or homemade), green peppercorn steak, and a triple cheeseburger (cant see the masses ordering that) dont say "signature dish" to me and, while I enjoy the spicy octopus & conch dish at Siam Oishi, its really not distinguishable from what you would get at other sushi joints. I can see what youre getting at though, so maybe its just me. Pate at Le Bouchon, if homemade, sounds great but can pate be a signature dish?
Now that I think of it, the octopus in black olive sauce at Pisco's should be a signature dish. Their ceviches are top notch too.
the chicken fricassee at Le Bouchon is absolutely fabulous and definitely a signature dish! I am always tempted to order it every time but there are too many other items thattempt me. I eat it in the colder months as its a hearty dish. Great for those cool months of December and January when we all think its cold outside:).
Last time I checked, this was a free country and anyone is allowed to eat anywhere they want.
