They think they're an ice cream truck
The workers who are fixing the power lines under Grand Avenue were all over the truck just before I took this photo. I understand they are great at construction sites, but do they have the right to park and open up for business right in front of businesses on the main streets?

Construction is really slow these days. Ask anyone in the business. That trickles down to the roach coaches. If they see construction workers, they stop. One stops almost daily on Matilda for the workers at the dry cleaners. If no one seems to care, or no one has stopped them, then they will do it. They have bills to pay too.
I guess to find out what they can and cannot do, you would have to look at their permit.
That's true, there aren't many construction sites these days. Didn't think of that.
Man! You remind me of something that Bill Maher said: "The difference between a conservative and a liberal is that liberals don't want their opinions enacted into laws"
If the lunch carts are legal and licensed, what's your beef? These workers are not poor --but they also count their pennies. Lunch trucks provide a valuable service to hourly construction workers.
When I was building my house, for example, they would stop daily and the workers would have a good lunch for a couple of bucks. There is --legally-- no difference between stopping by my house and stopping by any other construction.
So (1) Yes, they do have the right to stop and park the same way an ice cream truck has the right to stop and park and (2) they provide a valuable service for workers so they SHOULD be allowed to stop and park
THey arent just for construction either. One stops by my factory every day for the hourly employees. They seem to enjoy it. As a kid, I working in a liquor warehouse and the roach coach was always showing up right when I needed a bite and a cool bevvie. Just guys trying to make a livin man, L-I-V-I-N.
make a living not parked in the street. park at the job site or the parking lot for the people you're serving.
I TELL YOU WHAT HIS BEEF IS,: HE DOES NOT WANT THOSE TRUCK TAKING BUSINESS AWAY FROM FOCACCIA OR WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE OTHER WHOLE IN THE WALL HE LIKES THIS....MMMM POMMES AND PANES OR WHATEVER. THAT IS HIS GREEF. LIKE THISE WORKERS HAVE THE TIME AND MONEY TO SIT IN THOSE RESTAURANTS.
Yup, that's it. I own stock in Focaccia now. That overcooked oxtail or whatever crap they sell out of the trucks is gonna put them out of business and I'm worried.
Grape, you get a lot of sickos commenting here, not sure how you can deal with it. The last anonymous commenter is a sick individual. And to the sicko dude: Grief is spelled that way.
if universal healthcare is passed those trucks should be put out of business, the stuff they serve is worse than mcdonalds and isn't making people any healthier. also, it's hole in the wall, not whole.
But what if one of those trucks start selling healthy stuff, such as Salads, Home made Yogurt of diferent flavors, Chicken Breast Sandwiches and those sort of things.... wouldn't you want that lunch truck to stop by your office and help you to eat healthy and keep the diet...
Nah, I would prefer the local business that pays taxes has the proper licenses and is paying to be on the spot that the roach coach is poaching from.
First I want to say I own one of these lunch trucks you're talking about. You must be licensed, health department does regulate the food we sell and the equipment we use, the food we buy is from the same vender you will find parked at a 3-5 star restaurant at any giving delivery day. I worked as a chef for years and decided this was a great way to start a business of my own at low cost. If you ever stopped to see some of the food that's served at different trucks you'll see some will include vitamin water, most have chicken sandwiches (betterthen any bar food you'll find), burgers at an 80/20 rate (which is better then a lot of people will buy at a grocery store to feed to their own children), and bread product unlike restaurants can not be put on a table and reserved once the customers pay their bill and leave which just in case you didn't know restaurants will throw back in another basket and give to another table that is seated after you. So please consider these things before you make uneducated assumptions about the trucks you see serving food.
