Sharing our problems with the world

Another story was picked up by Reuters -- this one about the crazy parking meters, you can see it here. They have published it and made it public and available to newspapers and media around the world.

First the
FPL massacre, now the meter problems.

I wish they would pick up some happy news for a change.

I’m an avid reader and check this blog once, twice or three times a day and find it full of useful information as well as humor about our neighborhood.

However and I mean this as no disrespect to Grapevine and not to be a downer, but the Coconut Grove Grapevine isn’t being “picked up by Reuters”, it’s being picked up by a BlogBurst a blog aggregator. While it’s great that this blog is available to thousands more than just the regulars that read it, saying it’s been picked up by Reuters is incorrect.

In fact, there’s a note under the descriptor paragraph where these posts appear which says “
The following blog post is from an independent writer and is not connected with Reuters News. The opinions and views expressed herein are those of the author and are not endorsed by Reuters.com.”

To be picked up by “Reuters” would imply that the Coconut Grove Grapevine was the source of a story in Reuters.

Just making a point, but hope Grapevine keeps up the great work!

You sound like a miserable person who likes to destroy everything that is good.

Apparently you don't know how the news system or syndicates work around the world.

We were accepted to be part of Blog Burstsyndicate service (which syndicates us to subscribers of Blog Burst like Reuters and all other newspapers and news agencies -- Reuters pays for this service, so do thousands of other newspapers and agencies) and according to our stats, Reuters has checked us out over 600 times in two weeks and picks and chooses which stories to run.

They chose our stories, not the millions of others that were blogged today. They paid the Blog Burst service for our story. They actually hand picked our story out of millions, if not billions of stories published that day.

In turn, they sold our story to thousands of their newspaper and media subscribers (those that wanted it). We were found through Blog Burst, that does not mean that every blog on Blog Burst is published by Reuters or any other media outlet for that matter. Your point is?

When were you last reprinted and available to the billions of people that read Reuters stories around the world?

Grape is right, Reuters and other news agencies and newspapers subscribe to Blog Burst and they pick and choose the blog stories they reprint and in turn make them available to their subscribers.

To say they just appear on Reuters site is lame, if that was the case, every single blog listed on Blog Burst would be on Reuters today.

Reuters actually took the time to read the story, approve the story and reprint the story.

Of course they are going to place a disclaimer. They want the world to know this is an "editorial" and not their views, but the views of the blogger.

Does it matter how Reuters got the story, at the end of the day they chose the Grapevine story they liked and they shared it with the world through their news service.

Ouch... I didnt think that anon comment was meant to be evil spirited. Just another "editor" out there who unfortunately got served by Grapevine, albeit a tad brashly, for commenting on something he had little knowledge of.

Anyways, I really enjoy this blog and the way it keeps us updated on the ongoings in the Grove and our local government. Grapevine also posts some good conversation pieces from time to time and its nice to have a forum for an exchange of ideas/opinions so we can all learn from one another.

Thank you for providing this service Tom and keep up the good work!

Ouch! Anon started comment with praise, meant no disrepect and ended by saying you do great work. They just wanted to point out something they felt was incorrect. So in return they get called a miserable person who is trying to destroy good things?? Geez, don't you think that's a little harsh?
So much for encouraging people to speak up.

My reaction was also OUCH! I guess we have to be prepared to be clobbered if we state a view or give information that we think is correct. Hey Grape...you know we love you, chill out! I would certainly dislike being called a "miserable person" for writing in:-(
I'll have my peeps check anything I say...just in case!

Thanks Blind Mind, Moon & Elena. I'm not a miserable person at all, I commented and was slammed. Not a fun feeling, but free speech 101. Though slammed, I stand corrected.

It's Grapevine's blog and I respect his comments and that of others.

Thanks for supporting a lowly anon!
