Dinner Key, circa 1961

Love this photo -- it's on page 191 of "Historic Photos of Greater Miami," a new book by Seth Bramson. I think they sell it in The Bookstore in the Grove.

If you click on the image, it will open larger. It's a photo of Dinner Key in 1961. You can see City Hall and the land where Scotty's Landing is now and I find it so cool to see that the Coconut Grove Bank was there, too. See it to the upper left? And to the left below that is the Dinner Key Auditorium, current site of the movie studio.

There are older Dinner Key photos in the book, along with all the other old Miami photos.

My favorite Dinner Key 1960's history ocurred on March 1, 1969 at the Dinner Key Auditorium when Jim Morrison was arrested for exposing himself.

My favorite memories are of competing at the annual Science Fair and even the November Home Show. Why do we have to tear down our historical places. The building was paying it's rent most of its life. I find this depressing, I just looked at a Miami Herald picture of me getting an excellent award in 1968 for my science project on aircraft navigation systems. I guess I am old.
