Carrollton students on a medical mission

Seven Carrollton juniors will be joining over 50 University of Miami medical students who are giving up their spring break and several physicians to participate in a medical mission in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from March 29 to April 4. This volunteer organization serves the needs of the surrounding villages providing routine medical and dental care, surgeries and general health care education.

One of the physicians involved, Dr. Donato Arguelles, had his daughter Carolina Arguelles and a friend Josie Aguila, both from the Carrollton Class of 2007, participate in the mission last year. They returned from the experience transformed and wanted to ensure that future Carrollton students had the opportunity to participate in the mission.

While on the mission, the juniors will serve as interpreters for the medical students, they will teach basic hygiene to the children treated in the clinic and in the village, and will play with the children while their parents receive more in-depth education on hygiene and medical care. The Carrollton students attending are, Lauren Correa, Michelle Loret-de- Mola, Gabriela Lorido, Caroline Naya, Gabriella Pohudka, Natalia Useche and Jennifer Villa.
