I've never understood the economics of these art shows. They are sure fun for the communities involved, however.
I hope that despite the near washout for two days this long weekend the artists, vendors, etc. did well.
I would love to know if the economics for the artists (not necessairly the community) make sense.
I would imagine a lot of them lose money on the deal but its an opportunity to get your works in front of a large audience and make connections with a bunch of different people.
It can't be that much of a money loser, though... you see tons of repeat artists. They can't afford to lose money year after year.
I'm just a little curious....the small town I was from had something as fantastic as this (but with more live music)three times a year. It closed down the downtown areas completely, with tons of city help both before and afterwards, but NEVER charged an admission fee. The town loved it (with the exception of some residents during the "After Chill"), the artists' loved it, and the downtown merchants---yes, they still exist some places--- loved it as well. Those events never had corporate sponsers like the Grove Arts Fest.
So where DID my admissions fee go here??? Like I said, just curious...
