What's up with the post office?

The post office must be the biggest blight on Coconut Grove. They have no self respect and no respect for the community. They don't even want to try to make an effort.

This parking lot has been like this for months, you can imagine the impression it makes on visitors to the area. There were so many people in town during December that it would have been so nice if the morons that be at the post office would have at least tried to make the place pleasant.

It was impossible trying to mail Christmas packages -- you couldn't find parking. I ended up at the post office on Coral Way or in Coral Gables.

Do the post office officials and the Federal Government think this is acceptable? If this was the private sector, heads would have rolled
by now.

Government has little interest in being a part of the business community because there in no demand for results. Who competes with mailing a first class letter?

One can argue Fedex or UPS, but the postal system is not going to close up shop if they hemorrage money because of these competitors.

The postal system should have been privatized years ago.

And there's that little drugstore on Ponce at the corner down a little from Office Max. They have a little post office in the back. Lots of parking. Going to Coconut Grove even with the parking lot - forgetaboutit.

I havent mailed anything in awhile, but I never had a problem with the post office in the Grove when Ive needed to mail something. Maybe I just got lucky but I was always able to park in the lot or around the corner or at the CVS lot and then walk over. The people there were pretty nice too, a lot nicer than the ones in South Miami when I used to live there and use that post office. Now when I need to mail something I just send it from work.

Sorry the Bulldozer didnot keep going and knock the whole Ugly Post office down. Makes me laugh and wonder why people were so upset with Home depot coming in on Bird Rd but said nothing about the eye sore post office in the middle of town! Time for them to either build a Grove style looking PO building or move up to Grand Ave & Dixie Highway and merge with the other useless PO depot location. Then sell it all to a developer for more needed historic looking projects. Maybe the small strip shopping center housing the homeless should also be part of it all. Now we are talking a sweet improvement!! Bring on the Dozers....

It is up to Sarnoff to make things happen. It is his job. Get busy, Marc.

In a word, yes. The post office, like all state or local gov't entities, cares about one thing: Filling quotas by employing large numbers of people the private sector would never employ, due to their work ethic and attitude.

The last comment hit the nail on the head! After our move to the Grove we never got any packages sent via US Mail at home. Sometimes we got a notice; sometimes nothing. Once, I signed the back of the notice authorizing my husband to pick it up (in the box saying I could do this). First, he was told by the clerk that he couldn't pick it up because he didn't have a Florida driver's license (he did show his valid NC one-but this was apparently unacceptable). Next he was told he couldn't pick it up because our last names were different (not so uncommon where we're from)-but I did write out his full name on the notice because of that. The next day I went to see what was wrong. When I politely asked for the postmaster, the clerk got a attitude, yelled at me, followed by threats (when I said her behavior was highly inappropriate/rude). The supervisor finally arrived with the clueless clerk from the day before. She claimed I did not sign the form, and when I showed them I had, and asked what was filled in incorrectly even the supervisor said he didn't know how to fill it in!
