Update. They are open. Info is
here.
That Akashi restaurant is a mess. They sit there -- an empty storefront for years. Why don't they just give up their lease already and let a viable business move in?
This email was sent around recently, it comes from a concerned pet lover and citizen, I'm reprinting it here:
"Akashi Japanese restaurant (3444 Main Highway) has had it's power shut off for some time now and while wandering by the other night I noticed they have already put fish in their saltwater tank and some are still alive. I was wondering if there was anyone in a position to rescue the fish, as without power I'm sure the fragile tropical fish will not last long."

how do we find out who is responsible, who owns it, I am glad you guys said it will never support it never
The phone number to the south miami location is (305) 665-6261.
Common give them a break, they are getting the Sashimi ready ;)
You know, it hasn't been empty there for years. Last year, that ice cream place was there. I don't even think Akashi has been there for a year yet, let alone "years".
Seems like years. Next month will be a year that Akashi put their name on the store and Tasti D-Lite closed. A year to open a 2 x 4 sized restaurant?
It's been there for years? What's this, time warp? Que exagerado!
Yeah, there's the usually gross exaggeration here. Im sure the fish were not left there to die. Ever consider that the power is on but the lights in the tank are off?
I heard that the owner of Akashi is a evil fish hater. Apparently his parents were killed by being stabbed by a Marlin and he never got past it. That is why he got into the Sushi business - to kill fish. That tank is just the tip of the iceberg. I hear that all profits from the restaurant are used to buy up rare fish from local pet shops and kill them in an effort to make all fish extinct. He also supports home Depot and wants to cut down trees in the grove.
THE SERVER!!!!!
hahahah WHAT? an evil fish hater? are you serious? and hey genious who started this, when starting a restaurant you need a bunch of licences that can take a while to get. also the owners were in and out all the time trying to get it set up so if the fish were in the restaurant people were feeding them. and btw tasti delight was pretty bad and Akashi is amazing.
