It was a very tasty day

The Great Taste of the Grove was really fun yesterday. I enjoyed the food, music and company. It's on again today from 11 am to 7 pm at Peacock Park. This photo above reminds me of a Georges Seurat painting. If you click on it, or any of the photos, they will open larger.

Chefs Mike and Juan, with Jihane from the Ritz Carlton's Bizcaya restaurant were all smiles and this was even before they knew they had won the contest for "Best Single Taste" for their kobe beef shown here in Jihan's hand and shown below. They also won for "Best Looking Booth."

Monty's had a beautiful booth, too, and their stone crabs were to die for. Gary Ciuca, event chairman, told me that he felt that Monty's mustard was better than Joe's Stone Crab's mustard. He may be right.

The chefs at Jaguar also had a lot of favorite selections.

"Pocket Change" performed for a good part of the day. Instead of the usual jazz, they did a lot of old Motown stuff, which the crowd loved.

It was a day to just come out, sit on the grass and soak in the atmosphere. Today -- part 2.

Another great year for TotG. I went yesterday and had a good time sampling eats and downing some beers in the hot sun (Excuse me, but I thought it was JANUARY?!?!?!?!). I thought the shrimp dish from Nikki was good and worth the $6 and I really enjoyed the "naked burrito" from Qdoba for $3. My favorite of all the things I had though was the portobella quesadilla I had for $4 from Mari Nali. The quesadilla was really tasty and their spicy sauce packed a mean kick. The motown band and the jazz were kickass but that band that played 80s Spanish Rock was god awful. Tons of families and babies were around and it was cool that they had stuff for kids there. I was also extremely surprised that with the amount of dogs at the festival that there werent land mines everywhere. I dodged about 10 piles on the SIDEWALK on my walk to the festival alone!

This is my favorite time to be proud to live in the Grove and I look forward to the Art Festival (hopefully packed with DIFFERENT artists this year!) in February.

2 more things I left out about TotG...

I really liked that the guy who I believe owns Al Fresco was actively seeking out people to distribute menus to. That location is great from an amount-of-space point of view but its really challenging from an awareness point of view. I liked that this guy was trying to do something about that, which is something that I think all of these restaurants should be doing.

Another thing I didnt like was that there were different vendors on different days. I was bummed that I didnt get to try the Bizcaya offering because I was only able to attend on Sunday. Just seems silly that people couldnt commit to 2 days...
