Election day
I may just vote for the underdog just to stir things up.

I think you should vote for the person who will best represent the people. Just do a little research and the choice will be clear.
A careless vote is unproductive really. Besides, things are stirred up enough already.
From the "WatchDog Report"
"Municipal elections turnout appalling, Miami commission races has 792 voting versus 93,416 registered, Hialeah 618 out of 78,181 and Miami Beach 1,622 out of 39,878 voters
The Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections office sent the following e-mail today concerning the number of early voters that voted over the past week in the following local municipal elections, prior to tomorrow’s Nov. 6 final day of voting. The turnout to date speaks for itself, but it is appalling how few people are casting their ballot and tomorrow is your last chance to give your opinion on who should govern you, not a small decision in my mind."
It's hard to vote when you don't like any of the candidates.
Technically, you don't have to like them per se, rather just try to figure out the best one who will do the right thing more often than not.
Traffic circle vs. Mercy Hospital & Jorge Perez
The person who I trusted to fight off Mercy and Jorge Perez put the traffic circle in in front of his house.
He didn't get my vote today unfortunately.
You may not like any of the candidates, however, it is a wise choice to vote for the commissioner who LIVES in Coconut Grove as opposed to the ones who do not. After all, who better to know the issues we face here in the Grove than a resident Groveite?
On another note...did anyone notice that the Miami Herald didn't even put election day coverage on the front page?
Grapevine,
If your level of awareness of the facts is such that you think that Sarnoff "put the traffic circle in front of his house", it is probably best if you don't vote.
Too late. I already voted.
guess that makes 794 of us!
people who fail to vote shouldnt be allowed to complain.
Id vote Sarnoff but strictly for continuity. It'd be better than starting over with some Joe who doesnt know jack about whats going on. Sarnoff is pretty shady though. He really hasnt done a goddamn thing for the Grove. Oh, and dont go touting the Home Depot saga. He participated, but there were others who did most of the work.
So this is your opinion? Really, come on Grapevine, you do not have to like a candidate personally to vote for the best person for office. All politics are local - and we could do worse in our dist. But, I am happy you voted, and it does not matter for who, just as long as you did. The amount of apathy in the states is sad, we need more people voting, period!
-Bill Anderson
Voting for Sarnoff on the basis for continuity is wrong.
The guy in less than 1 year in office and he has accomplished:
1. A questionable improvement project that will improve his house value, the traffic circle.
2. Got sued by the Herald, and the developer of the project to release an email sent to a political friend in regards to the controversial building project at MERCY hospital.
3. Has shown extreme contempt for "property rights" since he is willing to put public pressure on homeowners to create an easement on their property for the pink wall project without due compensation. Even if it is protected under the US constitution, so now one of the homeowners will have to get in line to sue Marc Sarnoff.
The same old corruption is unacceptable.
So we must continue to search for new candidates that get the message.
He (Sarnoff) got sued because he was stirring things up. Isn't that what our commentator wants - the Big Stir?
No one candidate is going to "fix" all the issues, but making a stand for the constituents is an excellent step in the way of progression. We all know how difficult it is to get anything remotely worthwhile accomplished in our favorite banana republic.
We need to be more realistic. Voting because you feel good about someone and like them is only a small part of the equation. Sarnoff has represented the Grove well. When you aren't the majority (i.e. in a democracy) it's near impossible to create change for the common good. Nevertheless making the minority stand is so very important. That's really how we stir things up.
He has a history of bad behavior and has been sued for slander before.
Can anyone come up with JUST ONE THING that Johnny Winton did during the 7 years he was in office besides embarass Miami and force a Home Depot down our throats?
Sarnoff sued before??? By who? Johnny Winton - sued because he wanted his seat back. Wrong. Al he wanted was his pension and health care for he and his family for the rest of his life from the City which would have cost the City close to a million dollars.
yes. sued for slander for an undisclosed amount. a few years back. there was some kind of agreement in the settlement that it would not be talked about and the amount could not be disclosed.
