I didn't meant to offend anyone
I didn't think the money from the Waterfront project would be shifted to the downtown area, I just meant that if we put all that same energy and thought into the Center Grove, we would maybe make some improvements there.
The parks are used mostly by out of Grove residents who seem to like them fine. They don't seem to like the Center Grove all that well or they would be shopping and eating there. They aren't. Neither are the residents of the Grove. So why not put our energy toward something that would benefit everyone (tourists, Grove residents and all Miami-Dade residents): a better downtown Coconut Grove area. The Waterfront meetings seem to be a waste of time, because no one is ever listened to and the powers that be are going to do what they want to do anyway. That is the status quo in Miami.
If I remember correctly, when a previous Commissioner was in office, the plans were guarded so secretly, they were never on display, nothing was ever done on time and nothing was ever made clear. I wonder why. Doesn't anyone question this?
The Waterfront plan is going to come down to money -- who is going to make the most in the deal and who is going to get bribed the most? It has nothing to do with what the citizens like. You all know that.
For that comment, I am not going to apologize.

You shouldnt apologize for any statements youve made. You have an opinion and are sharing it. Other people either agree or disagree and we all learn from our different points of view. Anyone that gets offended needs to lighten up.
Its obvious that people like Related want to improve the waterfront because that is where they are stacking their money with the hopes of attracting new residents. The waterfront is somewhat within walking distance from the Mercy project. Downtown Grove is not.
I guess Im not quite sure what you would like to see done in downtown Grove? Im also wondering why you always put "fixing" in quotations when referring to downtown Grove? I think that, outside of rents being set at absurd prices, downtown is shaping up. Id like to see a little more variety as far as shops are concerned. Too many boutiques. It would be nice to have something tech-related like a cafe with wireless, etc., or a store like an Apple store or something. I think that with all the college kids that visit the Grove a tech store would do well.
I also think something needs to be done about showing people that there are plenty of places to park in the Grove.
Don't apologize! You are right. If the Grove needs parking build a parking facility for god sakes. The planned changes are to keep fat cat related comp[anies happy and build the commisioners a Taj Mahal they don't deserve. Instead, invest in the economic infrastructure of the Grove that serves the local residents. Thats my opinion and I don't apologize for it.
the grove doesn't really need parking, it needs some zoning changes that don't allow new condos built 20 feet from cocowalk without affordably priced commercial units on the ground level. It needs to be seen as a destination for something other than getting your hair done.
I think the waterfront plan is a good start, as well as the proposed changes on 27th connecting center grove to the metrorail.
