Young Republicans want Johnny in jail

On Tuesday, June 5, the Biscayne Bay Young Republicans (BBYR) issued an official condemnation of former Miami city commissioner Johnny Winton, recently arrested on criminal charges stemming from an event involving an assault on police officers.

The BBYR also formally submitted a letter to the office of Governor Charlie Crist, urging him not to reinstate Winton as a local city official.

The BBYR is the official YR chapter for Miami-Dade county, and has been in existence for more than 25 years.

BBYR Political Action Director Kevin Cerino said of the resolution, "Johnny Winton belongs in jail with Paris Hilton or in rehab with Lindsay Lohan... not on a dais with Manny Diaz."

So the Young Republicans are also against Johnny Winton returning to Miami City Hall! Finally an issue that I can agree with Republicans. Let’s hope that Governor Crist also agrees with us that Winton has disgraced his office, betrayed our trust and prohibits him from returning to office. Miami deserves better.

Anyone want to comment on why Manny Diaz is so desperate to get Winton back in office?

Mayor Diaz does not require Winton’s one more vote to help his developer pals win more up-zoning approvals, since he already has the Three Stooges on his side.

I suspect that Diaz wants Winton returned to City Hall to help him champion the fight for the multi million dollar Street Car Project.
Having Winton back will also provide Diaz with one more Yes Man and extra pat on the back for positive reinforcement.

Mayor Diaz wants Winton back because that would remove Commissioner Sarnoff. A straw-man or an empty shirt is preferable to the activist opposition which Sarnoff has banked on. Governor Crist is in a position to either damage his reputation among affluent, liberal homeowners in Coconut Grove and Brickell or do the right thing and keep a violent, abusive drunk out of office.

By doing nothing, the Governor can send a clear message that Florida politics is changing. Of course, we can be sure that it won't.

I think that photo should be used every time there is a newspaper article about Winton.

Related and Manny Diaz both want Winton back because Winton will vote the way they want with no questions asked.

Do you have any proof that Related wants Winton back? Or do you just want this to be true to justify your dislike of Winton?
