"Yellow" journalism?

I read this headline in The Herald last week: "Sarnoff denies payoffs for Grove Bay supporters" and thought, wow, what a strange misleading headline. Apparently I wasn't the only person to feel this way. Here are a bunch of letters in The Herald complaining and The Herald's lame response.

In the on-line story, The Herald wisely changed the headline to: "
Sarnoff alarmed at pay-for-support allegations", which makes more sense now.

It appears that there may be an
investigation about pay offs, which is what the original story was sort of about. We ran the original photos and questioned the yellow shirts and payoffs here on April 27th.

The man walking away from City Hall, in the photo above, is Murray Marcus, President of the Bay Heights Homeowners Association, who brokered a financial deal with The Related Group along with many others, including the Natoma Manors neighborhood association. In other words - screw the Grove - give us cash for our votes. They are greedy sell-outs, with no self respect, who care nothing about the Grove, he won't even face the camera. I would be embarrassed and ashamed of myself, too, if I did what he did.

Remember his board worked out this deal but the residents of that homeowner group were not privy to the numbers in the agreement. It also appears that all of those people in the sea of yellow shirts did not have a clue what was going on and they showed up to "show their support" for a quick $100.00 and a free lunch.

Related is the primary un-indicted co-conspiritor. The concept of Related's employees and lobbyists running all over the Grove giving out handfulls of cash to buy support is disgusting. Even more disgusting is the little neighborhood groups (and at least one local journalist) who sold their souls and took the money. And how does it benefit the West Grove little groups to see three monster towers ruining North Grove? Don't West Grove groups traditionally refuse to permit anything over 3-5 stories to ruin their neighborhood?

How could three City of Miami commissioners vote to ruin the Grove? It is all about the money.

I hope a great journalist does a great story. Follow the money.

Does anyone want to comment on Related buying the opposition? Do you think Related has paid the promoters and "yellow shirts" yet?
