A stupid idea.

Harry Emilo Gottlieb sent me this photo, I have been meaning to ask about this.

Who is the genius that came up with this crosswalk signal on South Bayshore Drive? Have you seen it? The pedestrian pushes the button and then ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. All sorts of lights and signals start going off on all sides of the street -- it looks like a jackpot machine at a casino. It is so disturbing and unexpected that I am surprised there have not been any auto accidents. Cars come to a complete stop out of shock and awe. You can hear the cars coming to a screeching stop on a daily basis. It's looks like an explosion or fire that just ignited.

It's totally unsightly and stupid -- too way over the top.

A stop sign would have served a better purpose, without the Hard Rock vibe.

Are you crazy? This crossing is a godsend. Drivers treat Bayshore between Aviation and McFarlane as a speedway so anyone trying to cross to the Fresh Market takes there life into their own hands. So until either the police start enforcing the speed limit or a real traffic signal is installed at the intersection I welcome any over the top device that slows traffic and allows me to walk safely in my neighborhood.

I agree the system is needed but not this system. It really is a road hazzard waiting to happen, it is just so sudden and in-your-face and I have seen cars coming to a screetching stop out of fear and confusion.

This is the greatest thing since slice bread. a stop sign would clog up bayshore from here to brikell. This lets us regular walkers and park goers a means to get across the road without risking life and limb. They should add another over by where mary street comes out on bayshore.

I agree that it is very useful for Fresh Market travelers but it does look like it may cause some to have epileptic seizures...

I think the blinding lights are necessary to get the attention of the typical miami driver who is either, 1. applying makeup 2. yapping on the phone, or 3. texting(which boggles my mind)

I was shocked to see how obtrusive these flashing cross walk signs where as I drove on Bayshore yesterday past the Double Tree Hotel and Fresh Market.

These new cross walk signs are really an eyesore and totally unnecessary.

There are a lot of smart people living in North Grove and I am confident that they can figure out a safe way to cross busy Bayshore Drive during rush hour without the need of these hideous flashing pedestrian cross walk indicators or even a school safety patrol officer.

If this hideous flashing sign is allowed in front of Fresh Market, then what is to prevent the same being installed in front of Monty’s, City Hall, Peacock Park, Library and on Bird Road and McDonald for safe access to Home Depot or whatever ends up at Grove Gate?

I am all for more folks walking and pedestrian safety. But more signs and more flashing lights are just not the answer for those of us that care about our Village of Coconut Grove.

Who do we have to call or e-mail to make these eyesores go away? Please tell your City and County government that we need less street signs and more trees.

True - the whole set up is total over kill and is yet another assault on our delicate visual sensibilities. Too bad the Grove didn't have stricter codes when it came to restricting over the top signage, advertising billboards, and now this - garish traffic signs!

However, there is a real benefit for the disabled sailors of Shake-A-Leg who have a hard time racing the light (esp. at Monty's) when crossing intersections.

As always, in hindsight there is always a better solution.

They are crazy. They are so explosive when they go off that they really are very offending. They make the Grove look like trash -- sort of like the Vegas strip.

What next, speed bumps on S. Bayshore Drive?

given that miami had the largest number of pedestrian fatailities in the US clearly they need to do something. i do not find them offensive. we should add more

This is a great system considering someone was killed crossing BayShore in front of the Mutiny last year. I really like. However, if it was on every corner it would loose its effectiveness.

Like all new things involving change, people will get used to them. Anything that helps draw attention to pedestrians and improve our urban quality of life is okay by me.

Bayshore Drive Should Adopt Golden Beach Method To Slow Down Traffic

Remove the hideous Bayshore flashing cross walk sign.
No need to spend money for another traffic light just to stop traffic for a while so pedestrians can cross the street and shop at Fresh Market.
Let’s learn from Golden Beach (Collins Ave) and install gentle rolling speed bumps on a part of Bayshore to help slow traffic down.
The Grove will look better, traffic on Bayshore will be a little slower, pedestrians will be a lot safer and everyone much happier.
