Here is the most practical usage for this home.
Each year the State should select an artist or writer of Florida / U.S. birth for a
six month stint allowing them the quiet serene space to create. This would limit the amount of traffic. The State could still oversee maintenance pay the stipend for upkeep and basic care would be up to the selected artist/writer.
They could create without the worry of electric bills, interruptions to the creative process. Most will likely opt out of communications with the world. i.e. phone service, drop in visitors.
Look into the Frank J. Doby award in Texas. This home is on the outskirts of Austin Tex. They have implemented this successfully for many years.
It has minimal furnishings. The place is rich with memorabilia left behind by the select artists.
I know, I've had the privilege of spending time there and donated the upright piano.
Leave her home where it is!
Make it a place of honor in her memory, with beautiful gardens and rich foliage - just the way it is.
Annamaria's idea is a sound one. However, it would be nice if for a week of each month visitors be allowed to interact with the current resident artist, as well as enjoy and reflect on the grounds. This way the property is shared and experienced by all, not just a select and privileged few artists.
