Breakfast

Glenn Terry brought up an interesting question in his Neighbors column today: Where is there a decent (and cheap) place for breakfast in the Grove, now that the Latin American Restaurant is gone from 27th and US1).

I have been eating healthy lately -- oatmeal, usually at home -- but for a while I was going to Deli Lane on Brickell, Berries, which has a nice atmosphere or La Carreta on SW 8th Street -- I go to the Gold's Gym near there (don't get me started on the crap Shaq gym again). Nowhere in the Grove enticed me, and it wasn't even about price, it was about a decent hearty breakfast.

I noticed that The Sandbar Grill serves breakfast, and if that is as good as their fajitas, that may be an interesting place to try.

Any suggestions?

Not in the Grove, but try Sergios on Coral Way, between 32nd and 37th Ave. across from Winn Dixie.

Boy I miss the Grove Pharmacy at the main intersection in the Village with their old fashioned counter and booths; and they had the best hot fudge sundaes! Those were the days you could get a Lumberger at Lums and shop at the Adam's Apple.

Coral Bagels has a great breakfast and I also like Green Street because they have killer homefries and awesome raspberry iced tea. Both are average in price I think, but nothing like a cuban cafeteria where you can get coffee, eggs, bacon, toast, and homefries for $4-$5.

Best place? Home. Overlooking the pool. Fresh expresso; fresh toasted croissant. Fresh OJ. No traffic.

Second best, honestly, Greenstreets. Not bad at all.

Anyone ever try Nena's the little corner place on Bird right across from the uber exotic sports car lot? A friend of mine recommended it for a great cheap eats breakfast along the lines of what Latin American was like. Apparently Nena is ninety something and serves authentic Cuban fare. If you drive too fast you'll miss it – the buiding is beige and very non descript.
Best directions I can muster: Head west on Bird, cross the intersection at 32nd, look for it on your right. If you reach the second uber exotic sports car lot on the same side you've passed it by.

Let us know how it is!

Yes, Nena's is good as well as Coral Bagels.

That 3rd anonymous must be as old as me! The Florida Pharmacy, Lum's, and the Adam's Apple? You have a good memory. I think the Tom Thumb was great and I liked the Candlelight Inn as well.
