Movies in the park

Not sure if I am crazy about this idea, but starting in a few weeks, the City will offer movies in Peacock Park on a regular basis.

The first is "Casablanca" at 8 pm on Sat., Feb. 10th.The movie and popcorn are free.

There is no seating so bring a blanket and maybe folding chairs, I guess, if they aren't going to block anyone's view.

I like this idea. Its a good excuse to get out of the house and take in a movie on a nice, cool night. Boston does a similar thing with free movies and concerts along the Charles River that always has a good turnout. The only thing that will make this suck is if attendees dont pick up after themselves...

I think it is teriffic. This is the perfect weather, not in the summer. Also I like the old films. Here's look at a good turn out!

I think it's a great idea. I moved here from Seattle where they did this in the summer. Many people attended these movies. Up in Vancouver BC, this is a popular event too. Can't wait to bring my dogs and enjoy a free movie and the weather.

People sat in chairs and blankets for Shakespeare in the Park and it worked well. They will also be furnishing free popcorn. We have tried for a long time to get movies in the park. Let's come out and support it.

It would also help if they actually advertise this thing. I really think the Grove is funny when it comes to new events and new businesses starting up. We have one of the top advertising firms in the country located in the Grove, and Miami is well known as an advertising hub. With that said, I find it quite comical how new events/businesses will start up with the mentality "If we build it, they will come" which is not an effective mantra these days. If you dont advertise a new event/business, you can pretty much guarantee that attendance will be poor. See also - the past 4 restaurants that have came to the Grove and gone out of business 3-4 months later. One common theme amongst all of them was lack of advertising. Im actually surprised that 2 new restaurants (French Kiss & Ideas) on Bird Road have yet to send me a flyer in the mail or do anything to draw patrons to their location. Heck, most people I know didnt even know these new restaurants existed!

(Food for thought - though I have not visited either restaurant yet, but I have heard that French Kiss has great food and Ideas has a unique Spanish style menu)

The movies at Bayfront is NOT free, probably because they show the latest Hollywood movies. So this free movie showing in the Grove will be a welcomed addition that won't be competition. Is there a website with information on the free movies showing at Peacock park?
