The Mercy project doesn't belong in the Grove

Once again, a comment on one of the previous posts expresses my thoughts exactly. This is how I feel on the Mercy project. I honestly feel that unless you are making money on the deal, there is no rational reason for acceping this horrible monstrosity. Here is the comment that I liked:

"I wonder what Tucker Gibbs really thinks? Take away his huge fee ($300,000) and the huge payoff to his "clients" ($2+ Mil) he probably truly believes the 1.2 Mil sq ft Related scam is obscene.

What citizen with any intelligence would think otherwise?

Take away all the out of town Related and Cervera employees, all the lobbyists and all the bribed "residents" then who is left to endorse the scam? Right. No one.

Let's listen to the residents who actually live in Dist 2 and who have not sold their opinions."

Neighbors in the Grove and the Coconut Grove Civic Club went through this nightmare scenario with the Grovner building. The developer claimed GI Zoning would let him build as high as he wanted and convinced the City to up-zone the property. The City said, "we'll let him do it but we will pass an ordinance so the abuse cannot ever happen again".

Neighbors worked with the City to craft and pass the GI Ordinance so this abuse could never happen again. We must be able to depend on our zoning ordinances if we are going to build a sustainable community.

It will be interesting to see what the City Commission does this time. After all the hard volunteer work put into crafting the GI Ordinance and the City's 100% support of it, it would be a crime if the City Commission reversed course.

If enough neighbors show up at the Commission meeting and SAY NO TO ILLEGAL FOR-PROFIT ZONING then we might just save our neighborhood.

The City bills the Grove as a "village". They need to treat it like the gem village that it wants to be.

SAY NO TO FOR-PROFIT ZONING AT THE EXPENSE OF THE COMMUNITY

I meet some neighbors who live in the areas that sold-out to the developer. They say they were never notified of the settlement and have since found out their homeowners association board that settled in private with NO neighborhood approval. Apparently the Association will not even tell the residents the details of the settlement. ie: money, terms, etc.

I would be surprised if the developer even follows through on a settlement. In the end, they don't have to pay if they don't want to, no matter how solid the contract is.

The key in this battle is to appeal to Commissioner Angel Gonzalez and Commissioner Spence-Jones. Contact them. Send E-mails. Write letters. Speak at the Meeting. Quality of Life must rule. God knows Miami does not need another empty condo project.

Just imagine. S Bayshore Drive as a parking lot.

For all those Related people who live in Kendall or somewhere other than the Grove, obviously you could care less for the quality of life along S. Bayshore. You have probably never seen it.

Let's not forget that the Grovenor offered the community $600,000 to better our community. That money is sitting in their attorney's trust account compounding interest and there has been no payout to any Grove organization. Another hollow promise!
