A vote for Sarnoff is a vote against Mayor Diaz

From Rebecca Wakefield's column in the Sun Post.

I tend to side with the little guys, and Sarnoff’s long record as an activist appeals to me. I’m a little disturbed by some of his tactics, but it’s understandable to feel that you have to use every weapon when you’re going up against a juggernaut. Because Sarnoff is not running against Haskins. He’s running against Manny Diaz.

Diaz, love him or hate him, seriously needs a challenge. It’s always dangerous, no matter who is in control, for one person to so thoroughly dictate the course of something as complex as a city on the verge of big changes. Challenge makes even a good vision better. I’m not convinced Linda Haskins is built for that role at this point.

Rebecca Wakefield summarized the race well. There are 5 Commissioners now. Three seem completely controlled by Manny Diaz. Doesn't the City benefit from electing an independent non-puppet representative? We need "checks and balances". We do not need checks to favored friends.

It does seem like an excellent idea to have commissioner who has the time and expertise to read the agendas and who will question the silly schemes coming from Manny Diaz.

Manny feels threatened by an outsider challenging his power. It should be required that the Mayor attend all commission meetings and sit on the dais. This is truly a race against Manny because if Manny were to run again, and thankfully he can't, he knows he would not win.

Incredible. Why is Manny Diaz so scared of having an independent Commissioner?

Doesn't it benefit Miami to have someone ask a few questions?

It was said a long time ago Manny Diaz wanted to get a half million people in the city so he could qualify for Federal money. At that time we had about 3 million.

Well a friend driving on I95 today counted 45 cranes working and building in downtown ...she couldn't finish counting, too much traffic conjestion and irrate drivers honking and screaming at each other, so she had to stop and concentrate on that.

I guess Diaz is keeping his eye on the prize. Wonder if he'll add the money to the fire fund, or use it to build schools, waterplant, solid waste treatment plant, widen the now narrowed roads, like Grand. Or perhaps widen Biscayne Bl...ooops can't do that gotta get that streetcar boondoggle in for 200 million. I'm sure the money is already counted and spent.

There is an excellent column in
"Miami Today" dated Nov 16 written by Dick Goodman calling the proposed $200 Mil streetcar "an expensive solution to (a) non-existent problem". The column notes the actual cost for the $200 Mil will likely well exceed the proposed budget. The column notes a light rail scheme in New Jersey costs $30 per ride. This boondoggle is being pushed by Manny Diaz and Linda Haskins. Who receives the $200 Mil to $350+ Mil? We need an independent commissioner.

Everything govt says it can build for X dollars needs to be multiplied by an inefficiency / corruption factor of at least 2X.

Want to know why people don't trust govt or mainstream media?

Because nothing govt tells people is true.

Manny Diaz is one of America's "green mayors" according to Esquire? Right.

Manny Diaz is a GREEN MAYOR?

Exactly what is a GREEN MAYOR?

Is that a mayor who spends our hard earned GREEN on useless boondoggles like the 200 million streetcar system?

Or is it a mayor who squanders the taxpayers LONG-GREEN on schemes that he and his cronies, the developers work out to line their pockets?

Or could it be a mayor who trades our GREEN tree canopy for concrete?

Or a mayor who wastes the taxpayers GREENBACKS by running a liar like Haskins, for commissioner, who seems think representing us is "having fun" while she does Manny's bidding.

If that is a GREEN MAYOR then most definitley Manny qualifies

Incredible. Manny Diaz was so desperate to get another puppet commissioner that he raised $730,000 for Haskins. And the Diaz/Haskins duo still got crushed. Imagine outspending your opponent 4 to 1 and still losing? I hope they heed the message.

Rebecca Wakefield, of Miami SunPost, should try to stay in better touch with the public. She predicted Haskins would win. Haskins only received 35% of the vote.

The vast majority favored the independent, Marc Sarnoff.
