Fresh new Milam's look

I tease Milam's a lot, but they really are making the store look nice. I think they are copying the Fresh Market, but no big deal. The produce section looks so clean and bright now and the displays are really welcoming.

Keep Milam's! Keep Walgreens! Bring on the Home Depot, Key West design! Become involved in the waterfront development that the city can't get off the ground. Stop the "manana" mentality.

Can you explain "Stop the "manana" mentality" to the few of us Gringo's still left in Miami???

I hate to sound cynical but I can't stand it when businesses don't update themselves or improve themselves until AFTER competition arrives.

Milam's was a mediocre supermarket at best with above market prices. Now that their sales have decreased because of Fresh Market's presence, they are doing everything they can to regain lost customers. Complacency kills.

Why do so many people diss's Milams... Look, you do not have to drive far, they will order anything you want, and if it's not out they will look in the back for you... I like Milams, and have shopped there since I moved here.

Fresh Market is located in a senstive area prone to coastal flooding during a Hurricane...who zoned that place....

Look, during Wilma, Milams was open and doing business.

I do not want large Depot, but I have not stopped supporting Milams.

Manany mentaility = it takes three times longer for our Miami leaders to accomplish anything, when compared to other cities of like size. Manana = why do today what I can put off until tomorrow?

Yes, manana mentality is the #1 reason why this city never gets anything done. Ive never seen a city so lazy in my life.

As for Milams, I enjoy shopping there as well. However, while it is nice of them to change their store displays, it gets very annoying when I constantly have to go on an adventure to find items that were placed in one area one week and then somewhere else the next. Also, I agree with the person who talked about stores changing once competition arrives and their sales suffer. Try being an innovator for once. Milams used to have good deals and still does, but Ive also noticed that they have parlayed the higher prices of Fresh Market into higher prices that are slightly lower than FM's. They used to have sea scallops at $13.99 and sometimes on sale for $6.99/lb. Now that price has been jacked to $16.99 and there is never a sale...

I was shocked to see rotten pomegrantes there yesterday, that looked like small, dried out prunes for $3.88 each when the Fresh Market had huge fresh pomegrantes the size of my head for $3.00 each.

I agree. Merchants should be constantly upgraging. Look what happened to Cocowalk and Grove stores who did not adapt to new customer tastes? Stores should always keep themselves clean and fresh and they should be proactive, not reactive. Would Milam's have taken several poistive steps if Fresh Market had not opened?
