Massive crap

According to the Stuck on the Palmetto blog, Ikea is opening up a 293,000 square foot store in Broward. Talk about massive. Makes the Home Depot not look so bad, except with Ikea, they believe in the environment, they don't pollute the neighborhood and don't have construction workers in and out non-stop, day and night.

Prissy little guy aren't you? The issue with the Home Depot is not the size, it is the location. There is nothing wrong with size per se. You don't hear a lot of people complaining about Dadeland, and they have over 1.5 million sq. ft.; If Ikea opens (or, for that matter, if Burger King opened) a 300,000 sq. ft. store in a location that was well suited for it, did not destroy a neighborhood and had ample traffic lanes and parking, there's just no harm.

Your reaction seems too knee jerk.

I guess that's what ultimately robbed credibility from a lot of the Grove First people, many of them came across as shrill.

I think it will be good to have an Ikea close by. The store they have up in MA is great and doesnt intrude on any neighborhoods whatsoever. Ikea is a goo cheap alternative to the furniture nazis down here who charge $2500 for a leather couch that you could get anywhere else in the country for $800.

ah, well its in broward and not here so nothing to really complain about... I'm originally from Pittsburgh and Ikea has a store there. The store is well-run (still full of employees that can't really give you an answer but in a store that's 293,000 feet I don't think I'd be able to tell you where this one red chair is) ...but it's not like you can go there and buy one thing anyway since they navigate you through the store with arrows to make sure you don't miss anything...

any word on when the store's opening? Haha I'm moving into a new place next year and will be looking for furniture, It's not my favorite for a whole house but I had a few rooms in my house in Pittsburgh completely furnished by Ikea...so reasonably priced and very well made for that price.

I heard about the IKEA store 2 years ago & I'm excited! I think they are a great company for several reasons. You're right about the fact that they draw a better crowd. They will also keep their parking lot cleaner. Perhaps, Broward will switch with Coconut Grove? :)
