ah perhaps, but the fence is there, and the red mesh surrounding the building is there and i saw a small trailer within those confines. yup, HD doesn't seem too affronted by the Firstys "you didn't ask me first attitude". one small aside, i'm still shaking my head in wonder at a previous blogger mentioning that HD would have problems fitting their garden center into existing space. Like that was a triumph. HD's garden center is one of the plus' of their coming into the grove!

The Grove First Crusade reminds me of the Cowboy and Indian games I played when I was 7.
Ridiculous slogans.
Boorish vilification of others.
A Dungeons & Dragons approach to politics.
A childlike view of human nature.
Screaming instead of reason.
But like I said, I was SEVEN!

Time to lay down the guns and let things proceed forward. HD cant be stopped. Youre dreaming if you think it can. Let the Max Strang design happen and then you can bitch about it until youre blue in the face, or find a way to enjoy our nice little section of the City of Miami.

How many of your have ever visited the 8th street store.... Or are you all paid-for by the Depot. Hey, if Home Depot would be a good neighbor, fine, but data is data, go to 8th street and look for your self.

Perhaps many of the blogger here need to get a does of reality too, HD coming or not, it's not going to be pretty. Hey, it's the orange monster we all visit when we need something, but at least Shell has people that can really answer questions.

Hey, try retunring an item on a Saturday at Home Depot.... you will see what I mean.

The G-First might be extreme at times, but they are trying to do what they think is best, and they are not being paid to do it.....

Some good points made here by both sides.

Why are they are hiding behind "Anonymous".

WHY?

Because I don't want to deal with the local mob of self-righteous and holier-than-thou un-paid amateurs trying to doing what they think is best. i.e The Grove First crowd

These people are viscous and treacherous and I would no sooner expose my family to them than I would taunt an unleashed rabid dog.

I think the last post-er needs to relax a little. People on both sides of the fence will be fine when the dust settles. I personally do not what the BOX, but pervious comments are tad too dramatic. Cut the theater, and stay with opinions, and valid lines of thought, not the above.

Why anonymous, well, if I have to reg. with one more site I will lose my mind.

Love the site, keep up the heathly exchange of ideas! All sides need to vent.

"These people are viscous and treacherous and I would no sooner expose my family to them than I would taunt an unleashed rabid dog."

You are talking about your neighbors.

The people who are viscous and treacherous are the management of Home Depot. They don't care about Coconut Grove, they only care about their profits regardless of the cost to others.

Keeping Home Depot out of the Grove is the most rightous cause I can think of and is worth fighting to the end to make a difference for all of us. The blogger who posted about Shell Lumber is correct, and we are so lucky to have a store like that. Just like the Grove had KMart, SW 8th Street had Sams Club which is now a Home Depot and look at what happened. Nevermind the SW 8th Street store, look at ANY Home Depot. Can you really see that train wreck in the Grove?

I'm NOT talking about my neighbors! They are normal pleasant people. I am talking about GROVE FIRST! They are unreasonable zealots. There are about 50 of them. Enough to fill most of the seats in the City Commission Chambers. If Jim Jones could get 1,000 people to drink deadly poisoned kool aide, I'm not impressed that Sarnoff can get 50 or so people to drink his brew.

Do you go to the meetings? There were a hell of a lot more than 50! Have you driven around the Grove lately and seen all the "The Grove says NO signs? The meeting I went to with the Zoning Board you couldn't even find parking and the people spilled out into the lobby. There were hundreds of people at the meeting to speak against Home Depot, so many in fact that they wouldn't allow speakers to continue and many in line lost their turn to speak. However, I do not recall one person speaking in favor of Home Depot. Imagine that.

When a pushy neighbor shows up at your door and says: "You'll put this sign in your yard, WON'T YOU???" and stares at you menacingly, you'd plant anything they hand you just to buy peace.

Same deal with speaking out at a public hearing. Life's too short to get these whackos on your case.

Oh c'mon. Surely you don't believe all those signs were put in the ground by people fearful of their neighbors. Surely you are not so weak that you would take a position you didn't agree with just because you didn't want to anger a neighbor. Oh please.

So why are YOU fearful of signing your name, address and phone number??????

I think almost all the pro-Home Depot comments and lies come from one or two Home Depot lobbyists. It appears Home Depot will pay these lobbyists a bonus if they can turn enough neighbors against each other. With another bonus if these same lobbyists can funnel enough money to Linda Haskins so she votes the way they want.

Grove residents can be proud. Decide for yourselves if you want to live in a beautiful green community or if you want to allow Home Depot to take over... Seriously, how difficult is it to drive 2 miles to SW 8th Street?

Home Depot is a strong experienced adversary. Congratualtions to Grove First for holding them off and getting the opportunity to get concessions if there is a final deal. Perhaps Grove First will enable Milams to stay with a new and better lease? Home Depot has already stated they will evict Milams in 2008. Vote for Marc Sarnoff Nov 21st.
