Johnny Winton - the pink elephant in the room
Yes, I hate him, too. I actually lost a townhouse in the Grove because the seller wouldn't budge unless I added an extra $10K for her "partner" Johnny Winton. They weren't even the realtors in the sale, she was selling her pesonal home, yet she wanted to get his cut. I was offering her the asking price which was overpriced and on top of that she wanted the $10K for Winton. I told her to shove it and it all worked out because I ended up in a place 100 times better. Ever since then, I hated Winton.
Let me make this clear: I NEVER MET WINTON AND THIS SELLER WAS PRETTY STUPID, AND WINTON MAY NOT EVEN HAVE KNOWN ANYTHING ABOUT IT. And she (the seller) could have just been name dropping in order to raise the price. She wasn't too bright. So I don't want to accuse Winton of anything. He proably didn't even have a clue of what his "partner" was doing, but she is the one who put a seed in my head.
But it always showed me the underbelly of politics around here. In fact, when Winton ran for office last time, I remember it was a terrible day, sort of like the weather yesterday. And I didn't want to go out, yet I made myself go to the polls in the downpour and flooding, to vote AGAINST him. But it was a waste, he won with 80% of the vote. Just goes to show, people get what they deserve. People vote for the most well-known name and don't seem to care what they get in return.
Winton won't back down from Home Depot. He refuses to listen to the voters and residents, he only sees the Home Depot point of view. I honestly wish some institution like The Herald would really find out why he is taking Home Depot's side rather than the residents. There is something there we don't know about yet.
I can go on and on but I didn't want to, but since some of you have started a dialogue here, I just thought I should add my two cents. Don't even get me started on the Mayor and the overdevelopment and zoning issues....

Buddy, buddy, buddy... I feel your pain. Every one in the Grove does. I got shaken down by a NET official when I needed to make a minor change on my property. I called Johnny Wintn's office and got a very cold reply. Sesspool.
Ya haven't been reading Miamista. Hell, I write most of it and sometimes don't get around to a second glance despite it being the best read in So Fla! "KIMCO" , that's the reason for Wynton's vote. They are one of the largest retail property owner /managers in the nation and they own the Home Depot/Milam's property. They contribute to campaign coffers everywhere, including to Winton and Mayor Dickhead and I believe Sanchez as well. I wouldn't be surprised to find they threw some biz to Wynco, Winton's property management company, either. The Herald on this matter-"Snnnnnoooooze." I think the New Times reported this on a couple of occassions. Nothing happened.
If you're not saying anything about it, no one is. You are the voice of the Grove on the internet. Didn't you get the sash, crown and mace?
You know what I don't understand?
They talk about these low income read: BLACK FOLKS LIVE THERE areas so horribly. Oh areas of the Grove are crime infested, liberty city is a monstrosity, on and on. Property values sink. Noone discusses the home owners are peeved at their property value and how the landlords are renting to anyone with a pulse. SUDDENLY! LOW AND BEHOLD! Big business comes in and the land is suddenly DESIRABLE read: the only place left to build. And VOILA! the land is suddenly worth a mint. the nasty black people criminal element are displaced and property values go through the roof! Something stinks like dead fish. It is a corporate ploy to grab anything they want and they are using black folks to do it.
It happens so much it is becoming quite sickening. Now either you love us or you hate us. Either we are a nasty criminal element or you are just a greedy monster that wants cheap property. You use the media to underinflate the value of the property and then come in and buy it all up sending prices suddenly through the roof.
How many times does this have to happen? Look at Brickell. Winter Park in Orlando...on and on.
Miami is quickly becoming a nasty corrupt beast. Everyone has their hands in the cookie jar and some people are coming back for seconds and thirds.
What goes around comes around Johnny Winton...and you know exactly why and what you did.
Now that Winton is indicted it appears Bush will suspend him. We pray for a election. No more sleazy lapdogs.
As many of you know, Johnny Winton is a Real Estate Developer. So why did run for City Commissioner of Miami? Real Estate Development!
Johnny is currently invested in 8 high rise condominiums in Miami. Can anyone say "Conflict of Interest"? Wonder why there are all these problems with High Rise Condo construction in Miami (violating by laws, breaking codes, deaths, etc.) with no enforcement? Someone is protecting their investment. Ask Johnny!!!
