420 alert

Surprise, surprise. Authorities arrested a guy today living on Shipping Ave. for growing a bunch of marijuana plants and also owning a pit bull. This is the Grove. This is part of the fabric of the Grove. (The marijuana, no the pit bull.)

Very true. I've smelled the odor wafting through our bohemian streets and have seen the plant tops swaying in the breeze. Can't the police go and do somthing about real crime and stop wasting our tax dollars with this sort of crap (and jumping out of bushes with fliers)? Maybe they can investigate government corruption??? Not likely...

People should know that if you use your property to grow pot (or produce or sell any illegal substance), the cops are likely to call in a fed-state joint task force to seize the property and initiate forfeiture proceedings. Then the house is taken to a judicial foreclosure sale and the local cops get a cut of any proceeds.

Revenue collection plays a big role in this. Fair? No. Likely to screw up your life? You bet.

there once was a wonderful cop in the grove - she responded to an alarm in my townhouse. I had a small plant in the back. She knew me, saw it, and told the other officers that everything was fine back there. She retired and went to vet school. We really miss you Audrey.
