Just say no to Wal-Mart and Home Depot

According to Blog Asheville, Wal-Mart gave up on their project and took the advice of the Asheville community and scrapped their plans to build in the beautiful mountain village. Now if only Home Depot would take a hint from the Grove residents. Enough with big box stores in small communites.

Even on
Gilmore Girls this past week, they were joking about a Wal-Mart and other big box stores coming in and ruining the town of Stars Hollow. When is enough enough?

The Home Depot was given a permit by the City's planning department. While activists are planning an appeal, the scumbags at Home Depot are threatening to do away with Milam's and Walgreens if anyone decides to appeal, in their current plans, Milam's and Walgreens stay. Real class act that Home Depot.

That plaza has so much potential - it's a shame to ass it up with a Home Depot (considering there's one 3 seconds away on 8 St.). Small shops, a little restaurant, I don't know. Just something different.

On the other hand, I've often wondered - where do the residents of the (what's the proper way to say it?) poor Grove or black Grove do their grocery shopping? Milam's is too expensive, and the Publix on SW 27 Ave. might be too far for the older folks. A grocery store might be unnecessary, but I was just wondering...

I wonder how many people are actually out there who would run up the street to HD, rather than fight 8th Street traffic...just a thought.
Also, what is up with the continuing, "well I think X, Y or Z would be better in that space. It does not belong to us. The owner of the space had a legal right to lease/sell it, as we are all WELL aware to HD. It's not up to the residents to pick and choose what goes into a commercially zoned space, unless they own it. I wonder if KMart decided they wanted to move back, if there would be the same hue and cry against that box store opening up...I'll be there would.

And lastly, at least for the moment...Milam's may be expensive, but it's in the Grove. Fresh Market is fabulous, but not everyone who resides in our zip code can afford it.
