Neighbors trying to save quality of life

Wednesday meeting at Hotel Arya

The City's HEP Board rejected the Carrollton School plan to build a boys Catholic school at Villa Woodbine last month, but the school will appeal that on Thursday, January 23, before the Miami City Commission, which ironically doesn't know which way is up regarding themselves these days with all the turmoil they are themselves facing. I fear that anything regarding the Grove and Ken's whole district, will not be important to them to credibly consider.

Grove residents as part of the Bayshore in the Grove group met on Wednesday night to figure out their own next move. The meeting room at Hotel Arya was packed.

Residents feel the school will not only destroy trees and the environment, but of course add to the daily congestion already there.

"Where there’s already impressive gridlock there, you’re going to add 11%?" said resident Rose Pujol, part of the Bayshore in the Grove group. "Where are they going to? I mean, kids should be picked up in drones then."

And adding to future congestion, plans were announced for two new residential towers near the Douglas Road Metrorail station covering 620,000 square feet. The project, called Shoma One, will be a rental complex which will replace the current Deel Volvo car dealership.

The towers will be 17 and 18 floors - ranging from studios to 2/2.5 units. A 530 space parking garage will be part of the project. Guess they don't really expect people to use Metrorail.

They are sealing us in like a can of mixed nuts.

A can of mixed nuts or sardines. North Carolina is starting to look better and better to me. It’s a never ending fight to stop the overdevelopment. We’re being sold out by people who don’t even live here.

The temperature of the City Commission is very much opposed to the school expansion. Commissioners Corollo & Reyes both spoke against the appeal. The appellant asked for a continuance to April. The item is deferred at 10:30 1/23/1920

We should have a moratorium on new development until a comprehensive transportation plan for the county goes into action
