New ice cream concept coming to the Grove

Salt & Straw is the latest tenant to sign up at CocoWalk. Salt & Straw is the newest thing from the west coast of the country, founded in Portland, OR, eight years ago founded by two cousins Kim and Tyler Malek. They call it a "farm-to-cone ice cream concept."

The menu creams Portland as they are constantly collaborating with local chefs from Portland, also bartenders, bakers, brewers, coffee roasters, and chocolatiers when they create their ever-changing menu. With locations from San Diego to Seattle, the menus at each location are inspired by local, seasonal ingredients along with the unique flavor profiles Tyler conjures up himself. Tyler, who equates developing flavors to storytelling, has created classic flavors that sell year-round along with unconventional flavorings such as avocado and oaxacan chocolate fudge and black olive brittle & goat cheese. We can only assume the great Miami tastes that they'll incorporate here.

“Taking Salt & Straw cross country to the east coast has been a long-term goal of ours and determining where to debut our first store on the Atlantic was not a decision we took lightly,” says Kim. “We chose Coconut Grove due to the many parallels we found between this neighborhood and Portland. The Grove is centrally located, artistically inspired, and fosters a real sense of community. The residents, locals, and businesses here are active and engaged and we look forward to adding a little west coast flair to this bustling neighborhood.”
