A new microbrewery is coming to the Grove
Olav Smit recently sold The Grove Spot. And in early September, it will re-open with a couple of new owners who will turn the location into a microbrewery.
The new owners are a local couple who wish to remain nameless for the moment and they also are not ready to announce the new name of the bar, but you'll see it popping up on the location soon. While the brewery will not be ready for another six to eight months, due to the planning and building of the tanks, etc., the bar/cafe will be open in early September; about a month from now.
You'll recognize the place as being a lot part Grove Spot and some part Titanic Brewery, you know the restaurant/brewery on US1, near UM.
The new Grove brewery will have the large barrel brewing system set up in back, where the stage is now and the beer will work its way through a system to the front bar taps. The couple, who started brewing beer at home, six years ago, has sold and promoted their beer over the years at Grovetoberfest and they have won various prizes for their craft beer. They'll likely have four to five of their own house brews and also feature other craft beers, there will be no Budweiser or Coors or any of those name brands. The full bar will also remain up front, so it's more than just craft beer.
Live music, cafe food and the same atmosphere that you have known at The Grove Spot will remain, including the green piano, and if they don't want it, Olav told me, he'll take it with him. The new spot is not a sports bar. They wanted to make that clear.
We'll announce the name and when they open in a few weeks. Stay tuned! The location is 3324 Virginia Street.
The Grove Spot opened in February 2010; Olav moved over one storefront from his Pommes and Pane Café which was next door.

Titanie, 14th moon of Uranus, Greek, Land of the Giants, Mid Summer Night Dream. A Micro Brewery from here today, gone tomorrow Grove Spot sounds, well exciting. I went into the Grove Spot one evening. There were 13 people inside and every one of them were on their c-phones, including the bar-maid. Thirty years ago everywhere U went in the Grove everyone was animated; dancing, alive, yelling, moving about trying to score (and most did). Today everyone smiles taking selfies, their teeth so white & pearly!? That's it! We need a dozen or so dental offices in the Grove.
WOW....I LOVE your comments about CELLS!!!
I have no intentions to be IN A CELL!!

Stop living in the past you dinosaur.
I will miss the Grove Spot. Sorry to see it go. So sad. Just another business lost to the Developers and their endless construction and no parking.
Hi! Did the place open? What's the name? I support local businesses.
