The club was originally called the Coconut Grove Housekeepers Club founded in 1891 by Flora McFarlane and other pioneers of the time.

The Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove was established five years before Miami became a city. It is the oldest community service organization in South Florida and its clubhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As a nonprofit organization it is dedicated to enriching the Miami community through the promotion of public welfare, education, civic improvement, historic preservation and the advancement of the arts and culture while fostering good fellowship among its members.

The Peacock family, who owned the Peacock Inn, across the street from the club gave a few acres of land to Commodore Ralph Munroe when he arrived in 1891, the Commodore gave part of the land to the library and the other part to the Woman's Club. Commodore Munroe of course ended up at The Barnacle site where he built his home.

Throughout the 128 years, they have given to and worked with a myriad of organizations a few include:

St. Albans
Old Folks House at Kendall
West Grove Elementary Library
Coconut Grove Library
Habitat for Humanity
Girl Scouts
Boy Scouts
Audubon Society (Mary Barr established the Coconut Grove chapter in 1915)
Mother’s Clinics and Children’s Homes
Veteran’s Administration Hospital – since 1949
USO
Red Cross, since 1914
Cancer Fund
Cerebral Palsy Drive
March of Dimes
and dozens more.

Besides giving to these charitable organizations throughout our 128 years, they have been in the forefront of the Suffrage movement since 1913, Equal Rights advocates since 1944 and throughout their history when duty calls they answer with their voluntarism, fundraisers and they are dedication to the cause.

The Womans Club of Coconut Grove is one of the most distinguished and oldest clubs in South Florida, their achievements throughout their history have been awe-inspiring.

The Woman's Club is at 2985 South Bayshore Drive.
