The parade was over before it started
One of my neighbors, an older vet, almost came to the parade with me in his wheelchair, I'm glad he didn't, I would have been mortified.
I didn't see any politicians this year, there was not much of a crowd and there weren't even police on horseback, the fun part of the parade every year. When I asked one of the cops on duty why this was, he said that the parade was poorly organized this year and they didn't have enough funding. I didn't realize people were paid to be in the parade.
To be fair, there was an event at the cemetery beforehand and an event at Arbrister Park after the parade, where a few politicians showed up.
The parade is every year, not quite sure what organization they need - the King Mango Strut goes off without a hitch each year without a problem.
Residents and people who work here couldn't be bothered to come out. There were more spectators last year when it was on a Friday.

That is horribly disrespectful and simply insulting to the Vets. If it was going to be a piss-poor effort, it should have been cancelled.
I think the local politicians should be held accountable for their non-attendance. I think those who were responsible for this effort, should be fired. Who were they anyway? The Broward Board of Election Supervisors?
The Vets deserve an apology.

This year they had a bone spurs theme.
Wasn't this Commissioner "Sellout's" project. If I recall correctly, he even got his fellow Commissioners to kick in another $30,000 to his Special Events" fund for this. Was he even there?
Although it is disappointing that our city did not participate in the parade, let's congratulate and thank those who did. Bands practiced for hours, homemade signs were created, vehicles were decorated, and people walked and rode in the hot sun to THANK and HONOR our veterans. They could have slept in and stayed home. So, to those of you who were disappointed, show up next year, participate and show YOUR respect. It's free and our veterans deserve it.
Thank you Debbie... so important to celebrate what happened instead of bemoan what didn't.
I spent 28 years in the military and have been involved in military and veterans causes in Miami since I retired a few years ago. I never once expected the city or any politician to support our events. And, in every other military community I lived in, neither did we expect that.
It's really about the people of the community coming together to celebrate our veterans. Next year, with or without the city or politicians, let's make it the parade our vets deserve.
Without a hitch...ask the mango strut committee how many months in advance and how much fundraising they must do for the simple act of putting together a parade.
