Another case of tree vs developer

This story from Tallahassee caught my eye as it has so many similarities to Coconut Grove.

An Oak Tree is standing in the way of a $30 million development in Tallahassee. Sound familiar? They have tree huggers up there, just like we do.

The developer was committed to saving the tree but a consultant says, “Not gonna happen,” said Jim Waddell, owner of Inovia Consulting. “Our proposal right now is going to remove the tree at Virginia and Monroe.”

This portion of the district has strict guidelines and the developer said he will comply and work the tree into the project. If you've ever been to Tallahassee, it is very green, there are lots of trees because they protect them.

Nice to see that we are not the only community that protects, or tries to protect trees.

Our home cannot be seen on a satellite view due to our trees. I wouldn't remove a tree from my property for any reason and I'm for saving these oxygen machines everywhere planet earth and I dislike overpopulation and all the traffic that comes with over development - but all of this is reality. Gentrification is also the reality and trees will be cut down to make way for development, but it appears to me that Miami does a good job making sure there's a ton of trees and/or foliage that comes by way of law/ordinances/regulations at a cost to development/developers. The newly planted trees will soon be a big and strong as what is lost to development and that seems fair to me. Jobie Steppe
