Bring your dog to Woofstock at The Barnacle

The Barnacle goes to the dogs again when Woofstock is presented on Sunday, May 1.

Bring your dog for pet tricks, a dog/owner look-alike contest, K-9 officers, adoptions, an animal blessing, hot food, and live music are all part of the fun. As always during regular business hours, well-behaved pets are welcome.

All dogs must be on a hand-held leash that does not exceed six feet in length. The event is included with the regular $2 per person park admission. Kids 5 and under are free.

Woofstock is from 11 am to 4 pm.

Celebrating 125 years in Coconut Grove, The Barnacle Historic State Park is located at 3485 Main Highway. The park is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and events are sponsored by The Barnacle Society, Inc., a non-profit organization created for the preservation and financial support of this historic site. Great idea for a fun day with your pooch. Why not designate The Barnacle as the Grove's Official Dog Park and return the other enclosed dog areas in our public parks to the public?

I personally think it dehumanizes humans to infer that a dog is a family member. No dog or cat could ever be our family member and we have four seemingly healthy, friendly, happy dogs & cats. And I don't mind dog parks, say 1 out of every 50 parks. The fact is most dog owners ABSOLUTELY HATE and find the idea of allowing their dogs to shit & piss in their yards is psychologically abhorrent - what, shit in my yard! ! !. So all this piss & shit ends up on the streets and when it rains all that crap ends up in our rainwater drainage system and drinking water. Yes it does over a period of years.
Pets are great, but they are just pets, animals, but so are germs and viruses, it's all life. Children are more important than dogs & cats, goats & sheep, rabbits & chickens, worms & birds. They should all be set free.
