Grove Playhouse Exec Director to speak at luncheon

For many of you who would love to get some answers about the Coconut Grove Playhouse status, this may be your chance. On Thursday, March 31, The Coconut Grove Rotary luncheon is featuring Olga Granda-Scott as their guest speaker. Olga is the Executive Director of the Coconut Grove Playhouse Foundation.

The luncheon is at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (2990 South Bayshore Drive) at 12:15 pm.  The cost for lunch is $20. You do not have to be a member to enjoy the lunch and speaker.

The Coconut Grove Playhouse site presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revitalize an important civic and cultural landmark that has been languishing for 10 years. The Coconut Grove Playhouse Foundation has been formed to advocate for the expeditious restoration and reopening of the historic façade and main stage theater, as well as the delayed construction of a parking garage and supporting facilities. The Foundation is working to ensure the historic Playhouse reopens as a nucleus of activity that will provoke civic, creative, and commercial interaction amongst the diverse communities that surround it.

Olga, will discuss their vision and updates regarding the Playhouse project.

Mrs. Granda-Scott is an intelligent professional; having said that this has nothing to do with her. The CG Playhouse and all interested persons, i.e., all the kings horses and all the kings men couldn't put the Humpty back together again. How many groups, organizations, and individuals have tried. Not even one rich benefactor is interested. Reminds me of the Republicans and Democrats and our up-coming presidential race & election. NOTHING, NOTHING & ONE MORE BIG NOTHING. But the CG Playhouse represents our community, including the City of Miami and not one person or group has put Humpty back together again. Such a extremely important entity/asset would be a feather in the cap of any community, but not ours - - doesn't that translate into we, as a community, don't deserve this feather? Further, since when should the general public have to pay $20.00 for such a luncheon. Fix the Playhouse and hold the tomato & dill pickles! 10 years is long enough to get this on some agenda. The Coconut Grove Playhousr should be saved as the historic building that it is. Why we discuss this over and over again makes no sense. Any other community would have had it remodeled and operating by now.

Please address your concerns for the Grove Playhouse and your willingness to help restore it, to the one person that is in charge of its future...
MDC Cultural Administrator
Michael Spring (MS4@miamidade.gov)

If you really wish to make an impact, then set up a meeting with him in person and take some like minded Groveites.

It WOULD be nice to rally folks to take action on our CG Playhouse, but it won't happen. I'm talking reality and predictable human nature. Oh, my gosh I'm being negative and not thinking positive thoughts! Okay, prove me wrong. Now that I think about it the Grove is chock full of Nathens.

"Friends of the Coconut Grove Playhouse was formed in 1976' yet you say "We are sorry Tom couldn't remember the other 90 key supporters". I bet a dollar it took several people several days to come up with your list of past key supporters. How old is Tom!? Over the years the Grape, (TOM FALCO) has posted dozens and dozens of supportive articles related to the Coconut Grove Playhouse, SO, show some respect! At the very least, please don't bite a friendly asset!?

So, how may we meet or communicate with the Grove Playhouse Exec Director if we have no desire to fork out $20 for a lame lunch? Should we not have an opportunity to meet or communicate with him in a public forum since after all the Playhouse is a public facility?
