Big night for our new District 2 Commissioner

It was all smiles at The Grove Spot Tuesday night, when half the town came out to celebrate Ken Russell's win as our new District 2 City Commissioner. Ken won the runoff with 2600 votes, which was quite confusing for everyone since Teresa Sarnoff had bowed out and there was not really a need for the runoff, but people felt so strongly about Ken that they made the effort to go out and vote. I know that when I went to the polls, I was surprised to see quite a few people there voting, I was expecting to be the only one there, which is usually the case. Above Ken is all smiles with fellow commissioner Frances Suarez, another great guy.

At left, Ken with Pia Clemens, a Grovite and at right, Grace Solares, who ran against Ken in the main election, with Stayc Sharrow Simpson, who is the wife of Mike Simpson, who ran against Ken. It was so gratifying to see so many of the other candidates supporting Ken. People really feel it's a new day for Miami, especially Coconut Grove.

Also at the party were Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, former Dist. 2 candidate Rosy Palomino, Sarnoff Chief of Staff Ron Nelson; Michelle Neimeyer was all smiles, she was a big supporter of Ken, Michelle tried to take this seat four years ago.

Daryl Jones, former Florida State Senator; Renita Samuels-Dixon, Gordon Fales and Jihad Rashid celebrated into the night.

Seth Sklarey and friends attended, Seth also ran against Ken in the election.
